Title: splitting elm
Post by: northvtarcher on July 30, 2010, 07:39:48 pm
Hey everybody.  Just got some nice straight pieces of elm about 4" diameter.  I got them home and attempted to split them. What a pain in the you know what. I could not get them to split straight at all. So I was just wondering if anyone had any advice how to handle this wood. Thanks.

My advice is to ignore the grain and just cut it straight with a bandsaw. ;D

Like Jesse, cut mine with a saw, quarter sawn verticle grain boards however.
