Title: Flat sawn/quarter sawn
Post by: NTD on July 28, 2010, 11:50:55 pm
In the most recent PA mag.  Marc St. Louis mentioned that he preferred a flat sawn hickory backing over 1/4" sawn.  When seleting a flat sawn board for backing I'm guessing you would select it like you would for a board bow right?

i've gotten away with flat sawn hickory backings at least a dozen times now. i look for straight edge grain & very few islands on the face.

Thanks for the reply Elk Country.  The only place in my town that has hikory has 4/4 flat sawn hickory.  I was hoping for 8/4 that way I could just rip off 1/4 sawn pieces....
