Title: Horse chestnut for bow wood

Any one tried horse chestnut for bow wood ? There is alot of it around here and it can be really large. Always looking for a good wood. ' Frank

Not tried it, but I think I've read that it's not much good...
There was tons of it here came down in the wind last year, I think I checked it out then, I'm sure I'd have had a shed full of it if was any good.

I doubt if it would be too good. Horse chestnut is closely related to buckeye, which is light, really soft wood.

oh heck just go cut one and split ad let  it dry good
then make a bow and let us know,but i would keep it wide and long
then your chances should be better

Thanks Guys !  I do feel that way about wood,cut it and see. I don't have a home right now,really don't have any place to put anything.Yet...I have my knapping space set up out under the maples and a space for all the anchors and stuff for the boat, our friend has been very generous in letting me use space and not mind what alot consider "clutter"  We are waiting to see if the bank will loan on our own piece of the world. Fingers crossed. ' Frank
