Title: First Colonoscopy
Post by: mullet on July 09, 2010, 02:10:36 pm
Well got my first one about 7 years late. That sure was fun ::). I just got home and I think I'm eating everything in site. It's a good thing I did it. They burned off two small polyps and one big one.

Oh the horror, the horror! You tell them any secrets while under the influence of the truth serum? I told the truth while on that stuff when they did mine. I told the cute nurse just exactly what I thought about how she looked in her scrubs. Told the doctor what I thought of him too, about three feet into the procedure. At that point they had had enough of my honesty, and sent me to la la land.  O:)

Aside from the obvious, here's your reward... if you haven't already seen it.

Eddie, you could always have a bunch printed out, and send them to friends and family on holidays. You could have it read, like Star Trek, to boldly go where no man has gone before, or perhaps keeping up with the Parker's.  ;D

David, Dave Barry is funny as hell. Used to read his column out of the Miami Herald for years. Moviprep is the same thing I drank.

Hey Ronnie, I thought about making Christmas cards for my closest friends. What was funny is my 8 year old Grandson was looking at the pictures with my wife and the Doctor when he cracked everybody up by saying," Grandpa's butt hole looks like a shrimp".

Eddie, glad you went.   I've had mine and I'm about two years out till the next one unless the new health law says i should just die instead.  Any of you other geezers who are holding off on having one.....well, don't .   Just schedule it and go.   As my Doc says, we are all going to die, but dying of colon cancer should be your last choice.

Don't worry about the prep, it's no worse than a good case of what ever you get for drinking the wrong lake water, but harmless.

And, in my case (and maybe Mullet's) if your friends tell you that you are FULL OF CRAP, well.....this will solve it.

My one buddy told me not to worry about it. You just woke up afterwards, everybody is laughing at you farting and you have a loose, greasey feeling on the backside. Kind of like passing out at a Frat Party. ;D

Anyone remember that 1970s sci-fi movie where they shrunk a submarine and a team of doctors and injected them into this terminally ill guy's body so they could go shoot his cancer cells? Ok, you know where I'm going with this.  >:D

How about a remake, except they inject them through a colonoscopy tube?

"Alpha One, this is control. We're picking up some bogeys on our MRI scan. Check your headings and confirm location." "Roger that, Control. We're at...whazzat...OH NO! Helm, hard a'starboard! All stop! Reverse engines! Brace for impact!"

Kinda like a combo between that sci-fi movie and Titanic. Just don't ask what the "iceberg" they hit was.

And I ripped off "Alien" for the movie poster motto:

"In the lower intestine, no one can hear you scream..."

Our local Med Center is using cameras in small pill form.  Swallow, wait a day and the med. staff retrieves them.....yes, they do.   And then the camera downloads data onto a computer.  They won't replace the colonoscopy but are handy for other digestive problems I guess.

I had my third a few months ago, dad had colon cancer which prompted me to have my first one at age 50. Took the killer regimen of prep junk followed by an excruciatingly painfully enema for the first and second one, new, easy on the body prep for the latest one, not bad at all.

Talking with David Mims about his cancer prompted me to have my third after procrastinating for about 7 years since my second.

Bottom line if you have any unusual bleeding GET TO A DOCTOR. My dad was bleeding and put off getting an exam for 6 months. In this time his cancer metastasized out side his colon and it took almost 2 years of chemo and radiation to make him cancer free.

David said he waited too long to get to a doc as well after he had some abnormal bleeding.

I don't think it's a stretch to say, if you are bleeding out yer... well I ain't gonna say on a family site, even just a little bit, that maybe looks a little like a bit of that tomato you ate yestidy, it ain't that.  In fact, there is no other reasonable explanation or alternative than to go to the doctor.  I had a problem, a brother who was constantly sick when we were growing up, supposed to die any minute, and frankly doctors just scared hell outa me.  In hindsight, cancer is a lot more dangerous than doctors.

Dave Berry is a riot.  Always like his stuff, but don't ever see it anymore.  Don't read the paper is why, I reckon.

Eric your last post bout yer dad lighted a little candle in my spirit that has been taking a beating lately.  Thanks for that.

David....Attitude and Fortitude are the Two things that have kept my Father going after both of His Bouts with Cancer...He lived through stage3 or 4 Prostrate Cancer.....only to get Bladder Cancer from the Radiation Treatments for Prostate Cancer...now He has had His Bladder and Prostrate totally removed...went through regimens of Chemo...and is supposedly on a Road to Recovery....He is a Steadfast Believer in the Theory that You can Heal Yourself with the Power of Your Will to Survive and Persevere...He will not let this or anything else take Him down without a Battle...not a Fight...

My Wife battled Colon Cancer...and is now 4 1/2 years free and clear of the Malevolent Disease that tried to take Her from Me....She looked at the Cancer as an Unwelcome Pest...and fought it Tooth and Nail...Told Me that It was just another Obstacle thrown at Her...that She would just have to Show Who was Boss...and let me tell You....She is The Boss..... ;)

I too am One of those that keeps Shirking the Proctologists Scope...and need to go and have it done...can't let Pride...or Modesty keep You from a Healthy Life....especially when You work around as many Toxic Chemicals as my Wife and I do...

I will pray for You and please keep a Positive Attitude....and hold fast to every day that You have on this Earth...for they are all so precious...

You know, I made this initial post just kinda funning at myself for being so stupid worrying about having it done. But now I'm glad I did.  If this does nothing else but give all you other old geezers a wake up call to go have it done.

 And Thank you David.
