Title: Karma
Post by: JW_Halverson on June 10, 2010, 10:53:21 pm
Two friends drew elk tags last year here in the Black Hills.  I helped one track his elk for three days before we got it loaded.  The other guy needed my help (along with three other guys) to drag his elk a quarter mile to the truck.

Apparently the Gods of the Hunt have found my heart to be pure and my intentions honorable because I just drew an elk tag for this fall.  A good friend is putting the finishing carving to a fine flintlock that I have plans for using.  wish me luck.

Good luck in your hunt for the majestic Elk . Such a beautiful creature to watch in their natural habitat.
We Canadians, with the aid of T.V. and the computer are paying close attention to your oil spill and all the people and Ecosystems it impacts .  Our hearts go out to you .

Aren't flintlock the single shot pistols used by pirates navy and militia/army of old? ???

Flintlock is a generic name for any muzzleloading gun (long gun or sidearm, or even ship's guns/cannons) that are ignited using a silaceous stone to strike a hardened steel plate creating a shower of sparks falling into a priming pan of fine powder, thus igniting the main charge of powder.

My flintlock was a kit from Tennessee Valley Manufacturing, 50 cal, early Lancaster style, swamped Colerain barrel, round bottom button rifling, single trigger built to go off at 2 lbs 11 oz of pull.  It has killed four deer already and I haven't quite gotten the finish carving on it yet!  Too busy buillding bows.

On the other hand, we may have a late rut this year...and if there is a late rut, I will be out there cow chirping, bugling, and packing a handmade bow, handmade arrows, and a piece of all your spirits in my back pocket.

My father has two pistols from the old pirate era style I think he said they were made 100 to 150 years ago. But I don't remember when he said they were made though.

Just got back from the High Plains Regional Rendezvous held up above Deerfield Lake, numerous elk were sighted in the area and the spot where I camped there were elk droppings.

Now that I got this tag, I am finding out from people that have hunted elk that the cow is much harder to find and harder to hunt.  Figgers!

Muzzleloaders of the Black Hills started in 1968, but in the last 15+ years they have not been very encouraging of new members.  Wish I had known you when you were here.
