Title: Have you ever wondered...
Post by: makenzie71 on May 07, 2010, 01:31:37 pm
(http://atarn.net/phpBB2/files/warrior_saint__monastery_lesnovo_929.jpg)

Talent appears throughout the ages at varying degrees...but there is one constant:  There's always someone who can draw.  If only 1% of the population has an artistic talent, and 1% of those artists can look at a target and then draw an accurate representation of said target, and only 1% of those people actually get themselves in a situation to where their art will be viewed and deemed worthy of saving, and only 1% of those people isn't a total douche, then there's still a couple people with all the above qualities producing good work.  Looking at artwork 100's to 1000's of years in age I see inanimate objects drawn with proper scale and dimension...bows, for example:  There are people out there who make functioning bows based on dimensions they gained from artwork thousands of years in age.

What's the point of this?  Knowing all of the above, I have come to a couple conclusions:

Humans made a dramatic switch from monocular to binocular vision somewhere around the mid-1500's.  The obvious most obvious explanation is that mankind developed a second eye.  People argue this point with because pictures always show people with two eyes.  I think artists simple knew the second eye was coming and compensated so when people look back at their work no one will think its weird.  Another, but far less plausible explanation is that our heads suddenly got bigger and it allowed our eyes to gain enough distance from one another to properly identify distance and dimension.

It's either that or people really looked like that a thousand years ago.

lol, beautiful painting, but what?

Where is that image from?

From one book or another...it's irrellevent...I could put a pic up from any text 1000+ years old and the same would apply.

Sorry, you lost me here.

Is there a better explanation as to why 99% of the artwork was unidimensional?

Because it's on a flat surface?  So you're saying humans only had one eye up until the 16th century?

Obviously.

Then why are there no pictures of the transitional period between one eye and two eyes?  In evolution there is always a transitional period between something as drastic as an extra eye forming in a species.  I think I would believe more in peoples perceptions in drawing changing before believing early humans were cyclopses.  As many movements in the Art world as there always have been this seems more likely...  Just my opinion...

It's my belief that the whole thing is a cover-up...the oldest in recorded history...by the Catholic church to prevent hard evidence of evolution from becoming common knowledge.

It's not about religion.  It's about your great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great grandfather only having one eye.

I'm not so sure about my ancestors having one eye, but I DO know they had two brains.
Title: Re: Have you ever wondered...
Post by: makenzie71 on May 07, 2010, 03:15:19 pm
Another possible complicated...even if there were possibly two eyes (which there weren't).  If the brains received slightly different signals and couldn't decide which was the correct one, you would get a combination of the two which, after focusing, would be one-dimensional.

very interesting....

Are all three of these questions necessary?

Nope but warranted considering your radical ideas.

My idea radical?  I appreciate it but I'm not sure the bodacious coolness of my ideas is entirely relevant here.

Title: Re: Have you ever wondered...
Post by: makenzie71 on May 07, 2010, 04:41:00 pm
For a long time they were cool with it because, due to their rebellious nature, they had to eyes while everyone else had one.  It wasn't until about 1600~1650 that the pirate captions had to start gouging out one of their eyes to still be cool.

This is a totally amazing, unique, and innovative line of thought. I can see where you are getting this from.

Look at old Egyptian art and then go clear across the ocean and look at the Mayan Art. Both cultures feature numerous examples of beautiful art work with subjects of one eye. Now the only explanation would be that this art was done during the same time the continents were joined, thus the same influence, or all the people during that time had, actually, one eye.

This line of argument is not hard to back up by all the fine examples of ancient Native art. And you can clearly see that man must have evolved to the second eye in Europe first. All you have to do is look at the fine art of the Renasaince Period.

And it was probally really hard for Pirates at the time to adapt also. It would have taken two to steer the boat. One with an eye on the right and the other on the left till they could get used to their gouged out eye.

My thinking was that it was extra hard on pirates because of the whole eye-patch thing

I heard all about this. See, I was a small arms repairman in the army, but before that was MOS 69X, which is Extraterrestrial Alien Technology Specialist. Anyway, it was my job to assess the technology discovered from various alien spacecraft that crashed on Earth. As it turns out, Earth is approximately the equivalent in the universe of Interstate 40 between Barstow and Needles. So, when aliens lost oil pressure in their spacecraft, they crash landed here because there werem't any intersteller gas stations hereabouts and AAA (Alien Assistance Association) doesn't serve this region and won't send a tow-UFO. So, these poor saps were stuck here. Some of them, however, became prominant actresses, but I can't tell you who they are---it's classified information.

Anyway, according to the alien equivalent of Reader's Digest magazine, Earth people drew one-sided people because at the dawn of time, an alien spacecraft had stopped at Earth to try and see if there was a Stuckey's here yet and accidently dropped a deck of playing cards when one opened the door to relieve himself. Some humans picked those up and copied the drawings of the face cards in all paintings since it was a big fad at the time to copy stuff (no one had yet invented the hula hoop, Rubic's Cube, or hackey-sack yet, see.) The alien playing cards are the same cards we use today, passed to us through time by their forgetfulness. Those face cards are depictions of the inhabitants of a planet of two-dimensional people that all walk like crabs and use parlor games instead of war to decide strategic matters on their planet. (Unfortunately, the losers in the game are summarily executed slowly with vegetable peelers while being forced to viewing of re-runs of their planet's equivalent of Love, American Style played on endless loops.) This is how human art became what it was until some enterprising artist discovered some nifty mushrooms.

This is the truth.

No, El D, this is all true. See, take the Predator drones for example. See, those were mechanical pets of aliens, you see. That's where we found the technology. They just reverse engineered them to get them to stop shedding and licking their nether regions in public. The aliens had also developed their pets to fly into the kitchen and make them a sandwich during ball games, so they wouldn't miss anything (alien TV doesn't have commercials, but they do watch ours on satellite to show how primitive and crass Earth people are.)

And it's true, this solar system is roughly the same as about 75 miles outside of Barstow east on I-40. UFOs break down out here and others pass by, see it, and just kind of go, "Man, sucks to be you..." Just like on I-40 east of Barstow.  That's why when alien children ask to use the bathroom when they approach our solar system, the fathers always say "No! You should have thought of that BEFORE we left our solar system!" The government has that on intercepted tape, by the way.

Outer space outside our solar system also has their own version of Stuckey's. It's not at all like the bar scene of Star Wars. It looks more like the Stuckey's in Grants, New Mexico, United States, Earth, circa 1976. They have their own "King of the Road" hamburger, too---just don't ask what the meat is. See, just like the Stuckey's here on Earth! And, of course, they have a Pecan Nut Log, too, but using some other kinds of nuts. Evidently, pecans do not grow on other planets, more's the pity. Yes, the aliens stop at these intersteller Stuckey's and buy silly knick-knacks poking fun at intersteller hillbillies and paperweights with various bizarre insects entombed in clear plastic. Again, just like the Earth Stuckey's. And about 10,000 quixnoks (250,000 Earth miles) away from the Stuckey's, their spacecrafts' engines start to knock and miss from the cheap fuel---just like the Earth Stuckey's!

Call me skeptical, since I don't really think humans were originally one-eyed.  I do know for a fact, though, that humans for thousands of years have talked from parts of their body other than their mouth.
Title: Re: Have you ever wondered...

Now it's going to get WEIRDER!  >:D

When I first saw the title, I had a "scanned words too fast" moment and thought instead of "Have you ever wondered..." I thought it said "Have you ever been mellow..." Yeah, that song by Olivia Newton John. Yeah, bet ya haven't thought about her in a while, have ya?  And while we're talking about her, how about the Captain and Tennille? Yeah, bet some of you haven't thought about them in a while, either, have ya? And you younger guys saying, "Huh? Who's Captain and Tennille?" Well, in the days long before musicians were wearing pants around their lower pelvis that were big enough for the entire cast of HeeHaw to fit in, and long before even the Pillsbury Doughboy and Hamburger Helper Hand were rapping, there were musicians that actually had to be able to do something besides sample other peoples' music, mumble off-key, and call that "music".

At any rate, hopefully, I've put the song "Have You Ever Been Mellow?" into peoples' heads now on endless loop.

Paging Colonel Kurtz! "The horror....the horror..."

A few things to maybe think about.

Skewed perspective, such as you find in Egyptian Art.

Tarot cards.

The Third Eye and other eastern mystical...stuff.

Pirates don't have depth perspective, if they wear a patch or just sport a gaping hole where the eye once was. Arrr. So, it must be hard to sight in thier cannons on a fat merchant ship. No wonder they were always starving and in rags. And too bad peg legs are so short. But you can probably at least make an atlatl from one.

Yeah, Nomadic Pirate, this kind of stuff rolls around in my head all day. I think my next project will be over in the "How-To / Build-Along" forum. I'm going to have a "How To Conduct A Seance" , I dunno, not really a "build-along" but a "raise-spirits-along". You know, some spirits in the afterlife aren't real hip on seances, though. Some of them look at it kind of like those sales calls you'd get around dinnertime back in the day before the Do-Not-Call List went into effect.  "Aw, geez, it's another friggin' mortal with nothing better to do that call us up and ask us to rap on tables and bang a tambourine! What's with this bangin' of a tambourine, anyway? What, we're the Lemon Pipers, playin' Green Tambourine for these frickin' people?! And why the heck should I tell them what their longt-dead Aunt Sophie is doing anyway?! Know what she's doing? None of their business, that's what! Geez, you think you finally rest in peace and it's all one big sales call, one after another! We need a "Do-Not-Seance" List here!"

And got in another musical reference from the era when music was music.  ;D

Michael C. many thanks for posting. Being fairly new I too was reading old posts/threads and happened across this pile of...wisdom. Makes me feel right at home cause I a) believe in cover-ups b) grew up in the South c) have some alien friends d) know what real music sounds like e) understand the drug references from my past...er...reading f) believe the one eye theory because why else would early bows have strings attached only on one end? Think about it, just think about it.

Sooooo.....all those prehistoric skulls with two eye sockets......were....... Aliens?  :o  So the ailens mixed with the mono optic earthlings, and.....their stereo optics combined and created......humans with a third eye, but in the mental state of the brain known as REM......soooo that is what the Hindi's are talking about.....cool! 8)  Now it all makes sense!  ;)  Well I think I will levitate, and glide into the Kitchen, for a cold beer.  I could just open the refrigerator, and have the beer, levitate, and follow the force fields to me, but I get too tired, using my brain like that, especially getting the cap off. ;)   I am like most guys about that.  In fact I get tired just reading instructions......which is why most guys don't. ;) ::)

A blue roundtuit?  I did not know that they came in colors.  I wonder which color would go well with all the projects that I have started and not finished, because I couldn't get a roundtuit.  No, no, indeed, this tinfoil hat is made from the diamond patterned foil, so that it has multi reflective points, and is sprayed with clear lacquer, to prevent any 'Haarp' reflective radio beams from penetrating, after being accurately bounced off of clouds being seeded by high altitude jets with contrails of iodine crystals, and other secret chemicals that remain suspended in the air long enough to be utilized by uh.... "climatologist" in the ..... uh .... study of weather phenomenon, and..... uh.... possible control of weather patterns, and of course not for any military purposes, and all environmental affects from said proprietary chemicals used, will of course be negligible, and any mass fish kills or bird deaths, are simply coincidences, or acts of naturally occurring phenomenons.  I have this on good authority from the voices in my head, that were beamed into my head, from the clandestine van parked a little ways down the road, after they patterned my brain waves.  You can actually look up the pattented device that was actually developed in the early sixties, so not all people who hear voices, are missing a fuse.  The law governing the use on civilians is clear.  It cannot be used on civilians except for training purposes.  Wow, I feel better already.  There is a type of foam that can be purchased to line your walls to prevent this.  Now where did I lay my hat, my microwave just came on by itself and light is blinking, .....  I will lean up against the door, while it is running for ten minutes, and talk to it.  I think it is lonely for my voice...... ::)  If you can't find your hat, try to slip out, and get some heavy duty diamond foil, and put high density foam on the inside.  A little boxy, but it allows you to sleep, without hearing the voices all night ....... ;)

                                                       Wayne
