Title: Finally Finished BBO
Post by: hillbilly61 on April 24, 2010, 01:14:52 pm
I finally got the boo backed osage done ;D Some wondered if I could do it since it was such a short bow and only my 2nd osage, first boo backed. It is 56" end 2 end, 54" n2n 1 3/8 at fades tapering to 12" @ nocks. 45# @26" Was trying to get 50 # 26 butended wit this. It took 1 1/4" set. Handle is walnut. I think that's what through may weight down ??? But, that's ok since I'm going to try and hunt with it. It turned out to be a very fast bow.

Good looking bow. 45# from that one should be plenty for hunting. An efficient 45# bow may actually shoot an arrow faster and harder than an inefficient 55# bow. Draw weight just measures how much force it takes to pull the bow back. What really matters is how much of that force goes into the arrow as it leaves the bow.

Should I add leather to the grip? It would still leave the ends of the walnut showing. I think tan or black leather would set it off Thanks for the comments and all the help y'all gave. I think I'm gonna try a make a full set of arrows next. Then onto the next bow. ;D Going to have to find a bow makers anonymous :D ;)

Thanks for all the comments. They sure are encouragement to keep trying more. I would like to get some more Osage that is rough cut boards. I like the boo backings ...so far ;) Think I'll stop by HD today and pickup some cane stakes. Y'all have a good day.
