yawza! :) nice haul!!!!!!!!! I don't envy the splitting in your future one bit though... ;D ;D ;D
-
I just looked at the photo, got tired, and now I have to take a nap. :) Jawge

to me the splitting is the most fun,,like a kid opening a christmas present,,,,I have been splitting all day today,, this wood is some of the best I have ever seen,, this farm I am cutting on is 800 acres,,I have have probably split 3500 staves off it, and I have only cut on 50 acres,,,I am going to try to cut a few more loads this spring before the leaves get full,,,back to work >:(
-
are you gonna bring some of this green osage to the Classic?
-
more that you have ever seen in one pile :o
-

heres a close up of the big one,, the only reason I stop cutting when leaves get full,,is the sap is at its fullest,,and is harder for me to store them.. the bark is falling off so means either remove sapwood or 3 coats of titebond,,to many to remove sapwood,, titebond to high to buy,,I would not store spring cut wood without at least 3 coats of good wood glue,, this is my living for next year, so I cant take any chances,, you can cut wood all summer, and I probably will,, just more trouble to store,, mike

Mike that sure is some nice looking wood
if the wife didnt keep telling me i had enough wood in the shed that i havent touched yet
i would be asking to get some of that there pile ;)
-
you are going to be making alot of money
-
you will never get rich selling osage,,if I didnt work for myself I would sue for not earning minimum wage,,,,lots of over head in that load of osage,, a few hundred to the farmer who owns trees,,, a couple hundred in gas over 100 miles one way,two trucks four wheeler chainsaws , oil, files. lots of water,, and thats just to get it home,,,then the work begins,, many hours pounding with sledge hammer,,a couple hundred in shellac, wood glue, pesticides,, then ready to store,,must have sheds or buildins,,, then 50percent of origional load you see, is scraped for burn pile,,,,,then hold your breath for 1 to 2 years,, while it dryes then no matter what you do the bugs always eat the best ones,,scrap them,, then more of them will crack no matter what,, scrap them,,,,you are left with 20 percent of load that makes it to dry stage,,,,,then I haul them all over the country 1000s or miles,,more gas wear and tear on truck,,,, them hope someone buys one so I can buy gas home,, but smile on custoners face priceless ;D

i guess I didn't think it out ::) thanks for setting me straight

That's the way it is with most businesses, Youngbowyer. All that most people see is the glory, and not the gory details, some of which Mike spoke of.
-
Aint just the Wood thats next to impossible to make a Living at...add up the Hours of Labor you put into a nice Sage Bow....and materials...then sell it....and see if you even come close to minimum wage for all of your work...some lucky ones make a living...I can't...and won't even try...then it would be a Job...and not a Hobby... ;D
And Mike...thats one helluva Load a dat Yeller Wood ya got der....... :D ;)

this is a couple nice trees I will get next time,,they have knots and limbs,, but between the knots and limbs there is some very clean wood,,,I will cut the biggest tree in the woods for 1 bow,,not to seem wasteful the farmers want me to cut them all,, and I am trying ;D
-
Mike, That's some nice wood. I really like the rings in the big log you posted. Looking forward to seeing you again at the classic.
As as for making a living? Well I call it a"labor of love" ??? ;D

Nice haul Mike. What do you use to try to keep the worms from eating it up. Dean
-
I use some stuff I get at coop, for treating fence post,,for wood borers,,I usually only have trouble when you cut during a hatch of the borers,,we had a hatch here last week millions in the air,,have not seen none this week,,

Holy mackerel sapphire. Thats thar is some cellulose gold.
