Is it OK to post pics of my first bow, even though I got hands on help from a friend (he slapped me on my bald head every time I started to stray from safe procedures - ;D). Actually that is a rhetorical question, as I'm sure if it wasn't for good friends an willing sharers of info, none of us would ever get started - at any age. Some of you have already seen most of this on other forums (sorr-eeee) but I'm awfully pleased with it - and the help of my friend Mike Brooks.
It is 67" ntn, 40# @ 27" Hickory Backed Massandruba (bulletwood/beefwood), with Brazilian Cherrywood handle and Bloodwood tip overlays. I also added a Cord Wrap on the handle.
:D It just now dawned on me I haven't even checked how to load pics on this forum - yet. 'scuse me while I go get some school-housing.
-
ABSOLUTELY!! Lets see some pictures. Justin
-
Good to see you over here, Bernie- just watch out for that PatB feller, he's usually up to no good. Looking forward to the pics.
-
Thanks, guys. I'll watch PatB (I've found him a pretty good ol' boy to watch anyway, and have one of his "Snakey" Sourwood arrows to prove it - :)) So far all I've found is the thread asking how folks like their pics - fried or scrambled. Can someone tell me where to look, or if it is done like any other of the forums, or sumpin', to start me off?

Looks great, Bernie-good job! So Pat sent you one of his ol' crooked arrows and kept the straight ones for hisself, huh? ;D

Thanks, Guys. Agbowyer, the pics you asked for are above (I was posting while you were - I a hunt n' peck typer - :D) Actually Pat gave me the "Snakey" arrow at ATAR (cause I went "snakey" over it).
-
Very nice Bernie! That handle wrap color is just awesome with those woods!! 71 years young eh! Hats off to you sir! ;D
-
A man of many tallents! Very nice bow Bernie. Next step is a nice snaky osage bow. Pat
-
Thank you kindly, tpoof and Pat. Maybe not next, Pat, but definitely in my mind for soon, since I love them so good.
-
Nice bow Bernie When he hits you on the head that means you should have had a V8. I got 3 yrs on you so that makes you a young fella. Ridge.
-
You sure your not 71 and been building bows for 40 years. That is a great bow. But hanging out with the likes of PatB. Man have you got to raise your standards. ;D Justin
-
Looks like a great bow ber, Thanks for showing it to us.

-
Great job Bernie! Looks like your a pro already. Now go out and build ya another.
-
Great bow, Bernie. Congratuations. I hope it is the first of many. Jawge
-
Wow, Bewrnie, that bow came out nice, congratulations. Steve
-
Yeah Bernie, nice attention to details too ;)
-
bernie, she's a beauty. i love the color combos: the choice of woods looks very stylish, the nocks are one up from there and the icing on the cake is the color of the handle wrap. stunning.
you know, there's this webpage where a guy is collecting every picture of a drawn bow he can get. i suggest you send him a picture or two, he might post them for you ;D
-
Sweet bow bernie, I wish I would've had someone to slap me every time I strayed on my first bow ;D. No bald spot yet though ;D
also my 2nd, yea probably my 3rd as well, now that I think about I could still use a good slap on da head, wonder if the wife would help ;D
Awesome job and hope to see many more.

Thanks to all of you, each and every one - so very much. Great way to start my day. (I think "that guy" already has at least a pic or two of me on there, DustyBear - even with this bow - LOL.) Nice to meet another "ol' Hoss", ridge - :D
-
Lots of years ago i used those tracers on my deer arrows. My wife has all kinds of goodies in her craft shop and i found some batten i think she calls it and it works great. I decided to go back to them this year. Ridge
-
Nice Job Berrnie! Keep up the good work! ;D
-
Thanks, Ryan - a welcome comment indeed, considering how much I like your bows and respect your bowyering talent. Ridge, another old former Marine (Dano) taught me that trick on the first cane arrow he sent me - 3 or 4 years ago now. I really like the way they show up and are so light.

Dana, Ill bet we can find a few guys that will slap you now if it will make you feel better. :o Justin
-
LOL - is that one of those, "Careful what you wish for," things?
-
That is a beauty. I really think everyone should have to break one or two in the final stages before they make something this beautiful. That cord really sets it off. Did you set it in glue? Great job.
-
Nice bow Bernie! How did you tie off your cord handle? I've never done one before, and was wondering if you do it the same as you would applying serving on a bowstring. I know how to do serving...I've made over 30 flemish bowstrings this past week preparing for the Tn. Classic.
Oh yeah...Simper Fi! ;) Hope the spelling is right on that!
-
I,ll not be slapping you around Bernie. I have a buddy up in Vermont that is still a marine at 87yrs. From the waist up he can hurt me. His legs ain,t to good so i can outrun the old duffer. Luck on the next one. Ridge
-
Close, Greg, it's Semper Fi but the meaning is there anyway - thanks. Besides, I had twenty years to learn how to spell it - LOL (1952-1972) You are right about the cord though, it's done exactly like serving a bowstring.
Agbowyer, thanks again and after you get finished wrapping you paint the cord with dilluted woodglue (I used Elmer's) or Titebond Then once it has dried you are supposed to coat it with the same finish you used on the bow. However I used Tru-oil on the cord for contrast of gloss look and feel, against the Satin Polypro of the bow. I really like Tru-oil (for lots of things) and probably would have finished the bow with that except that Mike warned me about the Hickory's propensity to soak up moisture.
I was out shooting it again this evening - it's a fun and comfortable bow to shoot. I have to cant it a little more than some of my bows. Pretty good authority for a 40#er too. Others have said as much of it also.
-
I just re looked at it I must of missed the grip the first time ,I love that, haven't done one of them in a long time but now that you have jogged my mine I am going to try another one.Great job.
And by the way,Thanks for you service to our Great country. :)

Bernie also makes a killer turkey call! I have one on display. It isn't any surprise to me that he would make a nice bow as well. Thanks Benie!
-
Bless your hearts, ridge, Pappy, and friend MattE. It still means an awful lot to us to read/hear that thank you that pappy used. Most of my Irish accesters wound up in VT, ridge but I'm the only Marine (and I'm a little fellah - LOL). Good on that one in VT though! Thanks, all, for the compliments on the bow and wrap.
-
I am sure glad I posted a "call for missed bows"! I never saw this fine one. As good as it gets, too. So now it is set up for April Backed Bow of the Month.
-
Way to go Bernie. Those tips are really cool and the handle wrap very distinctive. I love it!
-
Thank you so much OldBow and Gordon. I just saw this post, because i didn't think to look first this AM. I don't expect much but it's just a real honor that it's considered worthy among the class I see here and in the magazine.
