Title: First BBO finished (RIP another bamboo failure)
Post by: NTD on April 03, 2010, 08:49:56 pm
I got this Osage as 2 36" slats from Timo in trade and the bamboo came from James Parker in trade as well.  The Bow is 62" ntn, 1 1/4" wide, tapers to 1/2" nocks.  Very mild Reflex Delfex.  52#'s @29".  I really enjoyed working with this wood and can see why people rave about osage.  I love the way a sharp scraper peels away a shaving.

Look my nocks are even ;D

So this bow ended up popping a splinter in the bamboo.  I superglued it down and wrapped it with silk and then saturated that with super glue.  I shot it about 50 more times and then this happened.  I wasn't very happy and it's a good thing there weren't any young ears around.

To bad, sorry to see that Nathen; it was a really nice bow!
I believe you did not give it enough longitudinal support!
I had a splinter lifting on a bamboo backed Osage I have made years back after I shot it for a very long time; after supergluing the splinter down I epoxied on a 4" long patch of umbrella silk, saturated that with epoxy from the outside, wrapped into the wet glue and saturated that wrapping again from the outside, using Aceton to get a nice smooth surface.
Shot this bow A LOT in the past two years, pulling it to 29"!

I almost hate to read these threads.  Its kinda like riding a motorcycle and seeing or hearing about another horrible motorcycle wreck.  You don't want to look but you got too.

I know you have to be disappointed.  Keep you head up.
