so my past arrows ive been just tying on the fletchings by hand. im going to acquire at least one jig, and was wondering, what do you guys use on your fletchings when using a jig? super glue?
-
I always used Duco when fletching with a jig but fletch tape works well also and is faster than the other glues.
-
Always liked Duco.
-
Duco....super Glue is fast...but it gets brittle...and the Sun breaks it down also....Duco takes a bit longer to set...but it's easier to clean off of your Jig...and it stays soft a lot longer...and it scrapes off of the Shafts easy when you have to re-fletch....JMO
-
Duco. It sticks to pretty much any finish, it is cheap and easy to find.
-
on Duco the applicator tip is so wide that it's hard to get a nice cleam bead on the feather, do you guys that use it transfer it to another applicator bottle or something?
-
I buy it in Squeeze Tubes from Ace Hardware.....
-
Thanks Mike, I'll check that out.
-
duco and doller stores carry it , mine for a buck, used fletch tite too but like the duco better.
-
3 Rivers sells applicator bottles with tiny metal needle like nozzles that you screw on the bottle. Just keep the nozzles in a container of acetone, or they will clog.
-
I fell in love with the fletch tape real fast when I finally got to try it.
With Duco front and rear it's a great combo. (I apply it with a toothpick)
When re-fletching time comes,,, that's when I really appreciate the tape. ;D
The increase of speed and ease,,, plus the neat looks from no glue line is a added bonus for me.
I was hard-sell on the tape. Afraid it wouldn't hold for beans. I was wrong (again). ;)

If I want to maintain some primitive authenticity I use sinew wraps and hide glue. Otherwise I use Duco. Jawge
-
hmmm, ill have to look into the fletching tape them! i still plan to wrap the front and rear of the fletchings, just because i like the look! fletch tape and duco..
-
so i got an arizona ez fletcher. and some fletch tape. like the fletch tape, but i dont like the fletcher, unless i can adjust the nock to fletch distance. its too long.
-
no way to adjust an Arizona....only thing you can do is go with shorter Feathers....but this will give you a bigger distance between nock and Fletch
-
i know, i shouldve asked before i traded! oh well, i can probably use it for other arrows
-
I've got a JoJan that I really like. I can do either 3 or 4 fletch (usually 4 fletch with 4" feathers these days) and can adjust how much space between nock and feather by where I place the feather in the clamp. Don't know anything about the Arizona. As far as adhesive goes, pretty much what everyone else said. I like Duco, but it's slow. Tape works real well for the most part. I've only ever had one peel off in flight. Even did a couple of on-the-spot repairs on my dad's alum arrows for his compound bow with no trouble. It's not very "primative" though, so if you're after real authenticity, it may not be the right thing. Sure is nice and handy though. If you're skeptical of the fletches peeling off, you can either wrap the front of the them with sinew (or dental floss ;) ) or put a small drop or Duco or super glue on them.
-
yeah, i got some tape. i love it! makes it so much easier to fletch by hand. i know its not primitive, but neither are the field points i put on it. i do wrap the front and rear of the fletching for more authentic look. use superglue front and rear, then seal the wrappings.

Duco
