I got to meet IAMMOWHAWK from youtube he took me to his Onandaga Chert quarry man was that exciting. There were thousands of pounds sticking out of the cliff and mixed in layers was Normanskill and some other kind as well maybe snakehill what ever it was I had such a great time you can check us hammering away on youtube. I almost broke an axel getting home in my Nissan sentra. I didnt worry it was only 2 hours there and about 4 getting back but well worth it. Oh what a great guy he gave me a few nice gifts as well! Thanks guys I feel like its my Birthday today..woohoo!!!

HERES THE QUESTION!!! Has anyone ever used this stuff? It is rather tough and was wondering if it can be heat treated? I tried a small batch in the oven last night and sounded a little scary so I shut it off. They were spalls not chunks or anything. I have made a few things from it but not always a pretty site. Hopefully I can get Jamie over here and let him bang on it some!
Thanks,
Russ

Nope, don't cook it. It is what it is.

definetly no heat!!!! makes pretty colors and lots of really sharp, hot, flying rocks. ;D

there are a couple of guys on the PP board who have made some awesome points out of that stuff. You`ll have to hit it raw or it will blow up if y ou cook it. I have some of that and it sure does stink like oil. Looks like you have a source for rock
-
Yeah it really does smell like earl... ;) I am debating on getting a tile saw and making some slabs I think it will be fun as Im telling you it is hard stuff! I made some great points already and some fabulous ones that I messed up trying to thin too much and wam ruined them. I got discouraged for a bit so Im taking a break! TTYL guys!
