Title: braking bow

i am working very hard on a bow and it is good but i am worried it will crack it isn't to thin just a fear i am using red oak and how come it bos don't crack?

Chris, I think there are a few things you need to do:

1: Post some pics of the bow you're working on. We can't give you practical advice unless we know what you're dealng with.
2: Go visit Jawge's website and read up. Lots of info there.
3: Pick up a copy of the Traditional Bowyer's Bible vol. 1 and read it- There is a wealth of good basic bowbuilding information in there that will get you started out down the right path.

Chris, it doesn't matter how old you are, we here on this site will help you build that bow you are working on. Listen to Hillbilly and get us some photos and go to Jawge's website.
 If you want a 15-20 pound pull bow that draws 22 or 24 inches I've got one to send to you. Arrows to. Send me your address. Promise you won't shoot the cat.

I had my doubts about red oak...but I started with a 48" red oak short bow to get some confidence with the oak.   I was afraid of it exploding in my face until I got it to bend the way I wanted.
