Title: Osage bow
Post by: murphy on March 02, 2010, 11:23:41 am
Just finished this osage bow.  59# nock to nock.  60# @ 27".  Bull snake backing, ipe tips.  This is the best shooting bow that I've made so far.  It's my first bow out of osage, and now I see what all the fuss is about.  It's great stuff.

Thanks,
Murphy

Very nice bow with good tiller. Those skins really compliment the osage. I guess the bright color of the osage highlighted the colors in the skin.  8)

Very nice, I like that bow a lot. Tiller looks great to me too.  I love osage.   From a distance, that bull snake almost has a diamond pattern.  Looks really nice on the bow.

That is a really nice bow you made!
I find the tiller hard to tell because the bow is canted in the picture, your preasure point seems to be low, and the lower limb might bend a ted to much; the curve itself looks very good, though!

Nice bow!  I don't see many lefties  posting pics....I got into bow building becauase I could not find an all-wood left handed bow I liked out of 3 rivers or BPS....I've seen a few since, but not that often  ???

Thanks to everyone!  When I look at the full draw pic I see the lower limb bending more.  I don't remember that during tillering.  Probably due to poor lighting in my garage.  Has anyone ever had the tiller change after shooting for a while?  Either way it shoots good and I sure don't want to go through all the sanding and finishing again.  This bow is my third shooter and by far my favorite.  Thank god its finished so I can start on a new one. :)

You're right Murphy, your lower limb is bending with a greater arc than the upper limb. That's caused by the heel pressure of your bow hand which can't be mimicked on the tillering board. Tillering boards are only good to brace height, at least for me. After that I go to the short string and finish tillering my bows out by hand. Other than that, your bow turned out nice. ART

Nice bow Murphy,  love that grip.  jeff

The grip was originally supposed to be beaver tail, but I screwed it up.  I did cut a piece off and used it for the strike plate.  I've got another beaver tail in the freezer, but their such a pain to flesh out that I don't feel like messing with it right now.  Eventually though.  Thanks guys!
