Well I thought I would give HalfEye a run for his money! >:D LOL Not really I will Never be as good bowyer as him. ;D
Anyways here is my try:
It is red elm 59" N2N, Pulls 40# at 22".
I made this bow for my wife and her draw is 22 so thats why the short draw. It is tillered out to about 24 just to be safe.
This bow is FAST!!!!! I can not believe how it shoots. I now have to make one for myself.
I drew up this carving design myself and applied it on the bow. It is background painted with thinned acrylic paint. The handle is buckskin left over from some quiver leather, the arrow rest is an elk dewclaw I fancied up for a rest. The finish is Tung Oil, about 6 coats.
Hope you all enjoy.

Pictures will be in a couple posts.

I really need to make a holmgaard....great bow!
-
Nice looking bow I think u can get a few more inches out of the draw would really look good when pulled back. If you are worried about it breaking throw some backing on it. They have rawhide that is almost clear so you most likely be able to see the pattern on the back.
Cheers

Thanks for the comments guys. i sure had fun making this one.
Venom , I know I can get more draw and even more weight, But I made this for my wife, and her draw is 22", and I even tillered it to about 24" to be safe. I didnt go any farther because I didnt need to. this thing is stout dont think it will break.

Very nice work! Jawge

Between you and halfeye, you'll have nearly everyone in the primitive archery world inspired to make this style bow!
-
Tell,
You made the bow....you carved the bow.....and it's a damned fine one too!!!! I guess there are at least 2 crazies now ;D
I really like your pattern....the geometric pattern fits right in with the style of the bow.
I guess you are now an official, card carrying member of the club (nutt-so club that is :D) They do shoot sweet don't they.

Great job Tell! Nicely done geometric carvings. The Ertebølle people 7000 years ago who designed the Mollegabet were really into intricate geometric designs, and yours fit very nicely. Half-eye is quite the inspiration, isn't he?
-
Quite the bow. Artwork very admirable. Bookmarked for Feb Self BOM, too

Thanks for all of the comments.
DanaM yeah I think the wife really likes the bow.
HalfEye, cant thank you enough.

where I posted some more interesting info about the original Møllegabet bow archeoological find.

Interesting stuff there Ken. I really am interested in the history of all bows, and just to be able to recreate one is awsome. Probalby not exact replicas but its cool and fun.

Very nice......

Hey Tell,
You never did say how long it took for you to do the carving, also how was it carving on the red elm? just curious?
half eye
-
HE,
I was very cautious and it took me about 4 hrs or so, from layout to finish, plus about 1/2 hour to paint. Some spots were tougher than others to carve but overall when I got started it wasnt to bad. I used a dremel tool with a small round carving bit, and it worked great.

Nice Job with the red elm, it's a great wood for bows..!!!
-
That's a beauty - Beats a dozen roses any day.

would red or white oak or even persimmon make a bow in this style? is it possible to make a two piece or even splice billits to make this style of bow? if these questions have been answered in some fashion in this community, i apologize. would like to know which reply would answer these questions so i can read and get some ideas. thanks. 8) ;D :)

Hey Luke,
I've made these out of both red and white oak, walnut, maple, elm (red and grey) seems to work with about any type of wood. The grips on these are rigid so I suppose you can splice the grip or use a take-down sleve....over 60" I use a 4" grip with 2" fades, if that works for a splice (never built one of those). I know there other guys on here thats building some right now and maybe they would know more about it.....dont see why it would not work.

Take Down Sleeve!!!
What an awesome idea, now I have something else to think about .....
See what you started Rich, I'll never make it out the garage, or Doghouse.

Gosh dang it, dont need to get blamed for this.....blame it on to Luke eh 8)

I was thinking about splicing siyah-like recurves into the already non-working tips!

Ken, sounds interesting. Lets see what you can do.

Very nice bow Riley, and I liked the left handed draw on the money shot as well.

Rich,
The wifey is right handed and I am a lefty, and I cant draw a bow right handed. ;D
