Took a sick day - too sick to work but not knap right ;D? A piece of Burlington, Keokuk and two KY blues. Finished the dovey but got tired of pressure work. Anybody ever notice that petroleum smell with the KY blue?

Dang Paul dem are nice but your not setting a very good example for the younger folks on here by
calling in sick and then playing with rock :o ;) :D
-
Where did yo uever get a good piece of burlington? ;D
Nice stuff there ole-sickley -one ;)
-
Nice work!
Some pieces have a very slight oder to them. Allot of rocks here have that smell.
-
Nice, Paul. I thought you disappeared again. Love that dovetail and I had one piece that smelled kinda oily, but was more like Hydrogen Sulfide, you know , rotten eggs.
-
love that dove tail
did you punch the notches or flake them?
-
I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired!Nice bunch of points you managed to get done.Must not be down with a head cold if you can smell the rock 8)I think I'm comin' down with something myself, maybe a day of rock therapy would do the trick

Thanks guys! I like that Burlington Timo, may have to get more later. Think I got the flu, feel like s$^& today too so may have to do it again. I finished the notches with a punch. That's what I meant Eddie - kinda rotten egg smell..
-
the ones that do smell don't smell long. it will go away in about an hr after your done knapping on it.
-
It's probally trapped Hydrogen Sulfide gas, that's why it dissipates after awhile.
-
Yup, only smell it while I'm working on it. Have some rocks down here with the same smell. Finished up that piece of blue as a small blade and tried another piece of Burlington. Man I like these materials, both work like a dream..

They both look awesome! That Burlington would have looked better if you'd left out that last flake though ::)
-
I couldn't agree more Shannon :D. That was one of those pressure, pressure, a little punching then ONE more pressure flake to even em up and ^&$&^%*^(&*^(&^!!! Oh well theirs more rocks ;D.
-
I think I'm going to take a sick day. I need to knap. The blade in your hand is aweome. Great work.
-
Thanks Rick! How's the weather up that way. Think I have a job to hit up that way pretty soon..
-
Looks great Paul and nice chatting with ya earlier :)
-
Those are sick. Wicked sick if you're from Maine.
-
Hehheh, thanks Lombard. My next dove tail turned into an Andice. Funny how rocks evolve as ya work on em - especially when ya snap em in half ;D. Thisn's keokuk - had a little trouble with the notches ::).

I think I need to try one of those. I'm sure I can find a broken blade to try it on. Looks like it would be good notching practice.
-
Shannon: I'm sure you'd pick it up on the first try ;)- and yep, it is good notching practice..
-
yep there fun.
Nice work cowbow!!!!
-
Fine looking points Paul! ;)
-
Thanks guys. I'm gonna hit another later..
-
I need to run down some more of that Burlington rock.the fella that I got it from has several tons in his back yard, but not real interested in selling it. I had to make him a bow for the several buckets I got! Now what am I gonna have to do for the next batch?
BTW that is some of the best burl I have ever had. I'll try to bring some to the classic for everyone to get a taste. ;)
-
Thanks Rick! How's the weather up that way. Think I have a job to hit up that way pretty soon..
SNOWY!!! This is the most snow I've seen since I left the Soo. Where is your job?
-
Sounds good Tim, hopefully I'll be there.
Don't really know Rick. We're finishing one in NH right now and have others up and down the coast.
-
your in new england and didnt tell me!!!!!!!! ;D
-
Paul, If you get around Conway, New Hamshire you'll love it. If you get a chance try to go up Mount Washington. You probally can't in the Winter, though. There used to be a cool bar and restruant at the bottom of the mountain with a display and pictures of the little rail sleds the workers used to shoot down the mountain on. Kind of a Luge with tiney rail track wheels. I think they were called The Devils Bobsled. It's pretty interesting and a few were killed going for that quiting time beer.
-
Nice work, Paul! BTW, what's the difference in an Andice and Calf Creek?
-
Been there Eddie, can't believe how fast the wind blows up there :-X. All I have are the description's in the Overstreet book Steve, I personally don't believe there was any intentional difference in them back in the day - maybe just geographical location...
-
the spelling!!!!!!!!! ;D
-
