yup!

I want to say yes. That first one looks kinda like pignut to me. The bark on those
other two are saying shag but the pieces I have cut have a darker heartwood.

Looks like good wood to me regardless ;)
Everything is nice and straight and you ought to not have a problem with making bows from any of those staves. Have a good one.
-
Looks like shagbark but its hickory...It should be a real pain getting the bark off of it ...especially if you let it sit around!
Goodluck,
Russ

thanks guys! ;) I have sealed the ends on them and i am gonna let them stabilize for a month before splitting them and taking the bark off.
-
Yep...Shagbark alright...and it will be a Pain in the Butt.to get the Bark off this time of Year...you can either rehydrate it to remove it...or go slow and scrape it off as good as Possible once it is dry.... I would split it and soak it in the Tub........... >:D
-
Definitely hickory. Could be shagbark, shellbark, or red pignut depending on what species you have there. The red hickory here usually has that shaggy bark.
-
What was that Hickory that You give Me last Year Steve?? Shagbark wasn't it???
-
That was either mockernut or red pignut, I had both, don't remember which one I gave you. If the bark is smooth, it's mockernut. If it's shaggy, it's red pignut. Whittled on it any yet?
-
Nah...I thought that I would give it a year to equalize...then I was going to attack it...maybe before the Classic I will have some time off to work on it....right now I am at Work on my new HTC DROID cell phone....now I can surf the web and run a Crane all at the same time...until I get caught at least......... ;D
