Title: backing epe
Post by: bubby on February 19, 2010, 02:26:09 am
I know that boo and hickory are great for backing epe, but does anything else mate well with it?

buddy,
I've made bows from backed epe, I used maple, Ash, and elm to back those bows and they worked out fine. I degreased both mating surfaces with acetone (after "toothing" them) and used tite-bond 2.....worked very well. In fact one was a little 49" that was only 3/4" at the grip with a slow taper to the tips and it pulled 60# at 27"....it was pretty knarly. here's a pic

thank's for the replys, timo, half eye, those are some nice bows, it's just that about all you here about is boo backed epe and I was just woundering about other combos of wood and such. Was'nt being lazy searching, I had already found you're bow timo, just short on time. I'm starting a bow and knife combo for a friend's son for his birthday and wanted to match the knife to the bow, just looking for different combo's. thank's Bub

I think Rawhide would work. I'm going to try it when I get back.

I'd like to see it in rawhide, maybe a 62 or 64" bendy handle, paint the back and horsehair on the tip, I'll have to build one after my buddy's kid's gift and the ottowa bow idea that I got after seeing half eye"s bows. need more time, more wood
