Out of curiosity, I asked the seller, "Very interesting shape. Could you post an unbraced shot? I'm curious about the abrupt bending (hinge?) right at the fade area."
His response, "I sure will. The design is one that shapes the bow that way when the wood is laminated. I think it works very well, kind of a hybrid bow. It looks the same unstrung, but I will post a picture. Thank's for your interest."
Let's see what it looks like unbraced.

Those tips look way huge and massive...nonbending tips that are more than half the length of the limb??
I hope no one buys that hideous thing...I'm not even gonna call it a bow.
-
Holy Cow. somebody needs to intervene, maybe he just doesn't know any better :o
btw If this site does a bow swap i got dibbs on Twistedlimbs! great bow ryan, i wish i had some rainy day money.
-
He has an unbraced pic up now.....he was right, it doesn't look any different! Not so sure I like his "hybrid" design.
-
Well....is there any way that design is based on a time proven design?
-
I can't tell a difference in shape from braced to unbraced!
-

Hell I can hardly tell what portion of that limb is bending.

It's actually the guy's first sale, and he offers 3 more at the same time...

Is there an Avatar 2....he might have a gold mine!! ::)
-
I guess Ill reserve judgment until I try one. He might just know something. If I had never seen a Yumi before I wouldn't believe it was a real bow.
-
There was a guy named Adam Karpowicz (sp?) who used to make bows similar to that, I remember reading an article in the magazine once that he wrote about them. Seems like he was trying to get nearly zero brace height and long draws from short bows or something like that.
-
Okay - so does anybody want to invite the seller to join this thread.....maybe he can shed some light on it in person?
J

:-X :-X :-X :-X

I aint saying nothin cuz then he will see most everyone bustin on his bow

Karpowicz experimented with hornbows the way you describe; such a bow is pictured in TBB4, and his experience with it is described in detail at ATARN.
Honestly, I don't think this ebay guy's bow won't make it into TBB5...!
If the bow of the ebay guy had a side profile with let's say the working part being straight and the recurves being angled the way they are, there was no way to get this thing to be stable.

How do you know he isn't already here and just keeping quiet?

The guy actually got a bit on one of his four bows on ebay...
-
Now that's scary!
-
in TBB4 there is a pic of a mini bow that looks kinda like it might be where he got his design from... I think it is page 133 or 134... it's 130 something... :)
-
he has posted a full draw picture.....and it looks easily to be a 30" draw....if his notes are correct.

Probably him from another computer or one of his buddies..... :P

From the unbraced profile I would say it can easily be drawn 30" if not much further!
Found another ebay bowyer offering a 72" ntn hickory backed maple longbow, no kidding 14# at 28" draw!

Justin, I don't understand why you take a serious look at this bow. The yumi is very effective for the way it's used, and that's clearly visible. but this bow... is a laugh.
the guys who compare this bow to the karpowicz design... please, be less offensive. Karpowicz is one of the greatest hornbowbowyers alive. And his design is actually that of an extreme r/d. It's so far deflexed at the handle area that the fades touch the string when strung, but the limbs itself are highly reflexed. they lay (almost) flat when the bow is strung, and the string runs over the whole belly. This would give an extremely smooth draw, and, an incredible 'zip' in the last few inches.

I didn't mean to be offensive towards Karpowicz' experimental design at all; the opposite I meant to say! I just corrected my post since it could have been misunderstood that way.
I'm aware of the fact that Karpovizc is a very skilled maker of hornbows. In fact I wrote a review of his book Ottoman Turkish Hornbows in one of the recent PA issues.

Nick, what do you know about this bowyer or this bow? You are judging it by first appearance only, and we all know from the BOM contest that sometimes the prettiest is judged best while it isn't really the best bow. I am not taking it very serious, I didn't say it was a great bow or even a good bow. But I refuse to be "offensive" based on a simple glance at a crappy picture because I don't know the bowyer. I know the Yumi is a serious bow, but it looks goofy, that is why I used it as an example. Have you shot one of these bows to see if it is a laugh? Would you judge it the same if Karpowicz made it? I highly doubt it.
-
HOLY CRAP PILES !! he actually sold one, buyer said unique bow i love it !!!!
-
well I'll be..... :-\
....okay somebody pony up the $60 (or whatever) and buy one for some testing....

I asked that seller to post a full draw shot...pretty much its bending all in the middle 8 inches or so of the handle
-
If I could tie a string onto a stick like that and sell them for $20, I would be rich. Someone please explain to him what tiller means.
-
That's why they call it a stick bow...DUH!!! ::) :'( :'( :'(
