Post by: hillbilly61 on February 03, 2010, 11:02:25 pm
Can any wood board (grain running the right way) be backed by bamboo? Red cedar, mahogany sweetgum?

"Can" it be backed...answer is YES.

Will any wood perform well with bamboo backing...no not any wood.

Of the Woods You mentioned...I have never used two...but as for red Oak...I would say...Not a Good Idea...the Bamboo can Overpower the Oak and cause Failures....unless Your Design is about Perfect...I have never Backed a ERC Bow...always been Selfbows...

I don't do wood or bamboo backed bows but I just want to make the point that red oak or most hardwood bows don't automatically need to be backed with anything. The key is the straightness of the grain. Jawge
