How many Bows have you built?? This Bow design isnt one of the Easiest to pull off...it's like building two seperate Bows...and mating them to each other...and making them get along......... ;D

Do a search for pictures. There are several back issues with critical how to information.

They're harder to string than they are to build in my opinion :)

Just make two D bows. The main bow should be a R/D bow, tillered out to full draw with a nice graceful curve and about 10-15# underweight. The back bow should be shorter and highly reflexed and HEAVY in draw. Just tie the handles together and make some cords to connect the tips (the lower the stretch the better). Tweak as necessary and balance them to full draw.

My theory is that if you can get a back bow that stores enough energy and is elastic enough, the main bow will draw like a heavier bow, store the energy of a heavier bow, but have the lower limb mass of a lighter bow. Of course... that's alot easier said than done ;D

Destructo,

Does sycamore make a good penobscot (for both front and back bows)? What wood did you make yours from?

Coyote Pup...whats up with the New Handle??? This Bow is made from Pignut Hickory...but I bet that if you didn't overdo it...Sycamore would be fine....say a 45 pound Main Bow...and an additional 15-20 pounds on the Back Bow...should be good...JMO

Destructo

Like a dumbass I never wrote down my password and when I had to reset my computer the other day (on which I was always logged in, it logged me out. And I couldn't e-mail the admin's to get it because the e-mail I used when I registered I never used since, and it has long since shut down for inactivity. It's ok, though... you can still call me Coyote Pup  ;D

Medicinewheel,
No name that I know of.....however McCord Museum has it now but it was transfered from the Redpath Museum (dont know where that is) and it's listed as "Aboriginal"....here are the specs:
9.2 X 182.5 cm aged between 1880 & 1915   the materials are listed as wood, paint, skin, grass, and metal.  It looks to me that the upper limb was held together by either the sting or a removeable wrap of some kind and "allowed to "work" as the small sapling bent with the main bow....but not sure, just looks that way....also it looks like what they call skin is raw hide to me anyway.
Thats all I know about it
