I picked up a hickory blank at the 11th Classic from GregB and finally got around to working with it. I backed it with ash that I resawed on my bandsaw. Glue used was Resorcinol. I put in a little reflex with my heat gun (no deflex because I didn't thin the hickory enough and I couldn't bend it.) Actually, I put in a lot more reflex ,most of which went somewhere to the that great bend in the sky.
This bow is pretty snappy. It is 60" ntn with 1 5/8" at the flares. 5/8" Ipe tips. It is 7/16" thick 8" out from the flares. It took me forever to get both surfaces thin enough to get to where I could floor brace it. Most of final tillering was with an orbital sander.
The handle shape is the same as the original blank I got from Greg. But then I sawed off most of it and re-built it with ash, Ipe, and finally, yew.
Pulls 50# at 26"
The back (ash) is stained with Minwax Ebony and the belly (hickory) is stained with Minwax Ponderosa Pine.
