Title: Free range selfbow thanksgiving dinner ( pics )
Post by: NOMADIC PIRATE on December 27, 2009, 06:13:22 pm
The nite before i was invited to TG dinner, with false bravado i announced I would pring some fresh pork for the pot, however I was the one beliving the least that would happened.

TG day i was sitting hambushing a heavy trail one a perfect eating size young boar came up at a good trot, I'm like " no way"  ;D

I mentioned before i prefer taking shots at a stedy moving pig rather than a feeding one, pigs don't graze peacefully, they are kinda allways in a frenzy, and can swap end in a blink with no warning, what one second is a perfect shot could be a nitemare in no time ( more on the subject on a following thread )

as the boar leves with me I let go a 850gr arrow tipped with 190gr RIBTEK out of my 76# Guava bow.

I immediatly know I hit a bone square, the hit literally knoked the pig down and it started squiling hard, that something that I never seen before, for some reason his front leg was out of comission, the boar tryed to run back where it come from but kept falling and rolling hitting trees, than try again, untill it reaced the bottom of the gulch, by the time it got there it was dead, only a few seconds whent by and recovery was no problem

We ended up having some of this one for a big Xmass dinner with the big one too, they both tasted real good, but this young boar was truly superior eating

Dang Manny, it sure looks like fun hunting there. i went out deer hunting on december 31st (last day of season in MN) and nearly froze my toes off in an hour and a half. and that was a real balmy 5 above or so, it almost felt like the north shore compared to the weather we've been getting lately. Congrats i always love seeing your bows and hunting stories.
