Title: Bow without a home
Post by: DanaM on December 27, 2009, 01:22:01 pm
Just finished this one up. After making a rookie mistake by getting in a hurry trying to get it done for Christmas it came out light >:(

Osage 40#@26", 60" NTN, buffalo horn overlays, stained it medium brown and used the crinkled bag technique to add some contrast to it.

Need to find a good home for this one, any idears guys?

Dana thats not a mistake,  thats a nice bow! The tips, stain and profile look great.  I think anyone would be happy to have that even if it is light for a guy it would be perfect for a woman or youth.  If no one eles chimes in here I do know someone who would be very honored to have it.

Dana, that is a very sweet looking stick ya got there, tiler looks spot on
and its the preferred weight for me when just target shooting, nothing wrong with a 40# bow

Great looking bow Dana. There are plenty of groups like the WTF and RMEF that you could donate it to. The bow would go to a good home and funds raised would help fight the good fight and protect our hunting privileges.  ;) Or give it to someone who has private land that allows public access as a good will gesture.

Keenan its enter at your own risk  ;) >:D

Hawkbow if you mean you sent me a PM, I apologoze but I won't recieve it as I'm not allowed a PM account :-[ ???

Pat coming from you thats a compliment indeed :)

Tim I don't mind a 40# bow, but I have 3 bows now and can only shoot one at a time so might as well find a good home for it eh :)

Justin thats a good idea but I'm not a member of any such group and don't agree with all their policies especially our local Whitetails group :o

Thank you Don, I guess I'll join the fun this month eh ;) :)

Dana, I do a wild game dinner in albion, pa. every year. I always give away 2 hand made bows to  kids. As they have a drawing, just for that! I would be honored to present it to a youth and take pics and get info and even post if you like . They call it the FEDERATIONS of Churches--- two combined. & 750 men show up each year. What do you think of that? Just e-mail me or call at ...Thanks Denny

Dana, what you're doing is a great gesture. That would make a great bow for someone who doesn't have a bow at all or wants to get started in primitive archery but can't afford a bow at the time. There was someone on here a few days ago looking for a first bow and on a budget, but I think someone's making him one. Awesome act of generosity! I stand up and applaud!!!!
Title: Re: Bow without a home
Post by: DanaM on December 27, 2009, 08:08:48 pm
thanks riley :)

Tsalagi, I just don't have a use for it I have several bows already, one that I made and a few from guys on here that were gifts so I have no need of another bow
I see no point in having a closet full of bows that I won't use, might as well give them away, I enjoy making them and would rather see them used than sit in a closet :)

Wow that's a great looking bow.I wil like to e-mail you and ask you to send me the bow but I'll just have it hanging in the wall because it will be my first good looking bow and I wouldn't want to break it or ruin it since I still got a lot to learn before handling this kind of bow.
DanaM great gesture.I'm sure someone will have a good use for this bow.

i dont think anybody builds bows on here just to hang on the wall, so who ever gets the honor to own it use it and feed the hunger.

I, like everyone else on PS, would love to have it. However, another option would be to raffle it off at the TN classic. Just a thought.

Imagine the kind of revenue that could be made with a bow which was donated to the TN raffle!

The last 2 years people have donated bows for Twin Oaks to raffle and like I said I have donated knives the last 2 years :)

Thank You Lombard :)

This bow now has a home it will be heading west of me :) And I think I'm jealous that it gets to go and I have to stay home :( :)

Dana,
That is a beautiful bow and one nice gesture. I  too am glad you found a good home for it. I just love the finish you gave it. Could you give us more on how you did it?
Thanks,
Chasing Crow
Title: Re: Bow without a home
Post by: DanaM on January 04, 2010, 09:31:25 am
Thanks Frank...eh :D

crow the finish is easy, I used fieblings leather dye, first I dyed the whole bow a solid British Tan then came back
with black and used a crinkled up piece of wally world bag to sorta blotch it on, go easy on this part as a little goes a long way,
practice on a piece of scrap, you can get as fancy as ya want and use multiple colors. Final finish is Tru Oil

Go to the Post Office today to mail the bow to its new owner :)
