i know lots of people use turkey feathers but are there any other feathers that can be used??
-
weill i prefer wild turley primaries adn secodaries, will also use the tail feathers.
also wheni get them(i dont hunt them)canadian goose primaries and secondaries.
but i think any larg feather, especially primaries will work.
turkey primaries are about the most durable jmho

Turkey and goose are my favorites. Goose primaries make great fletchings.

Turkey, goose, peacock and peahen wing feathers work great.. also, pheasant and grouse wing feathers work for hunting arrows.

Wild turkey are my preference. Partially because they make great fletchings, partially because of the look. Solid color feathers appear to be craft store feathers to most people. Those same people recognize barred turkey feathers as a natural feather, and natural is what I am after.

Turkey and goose feathers are my favorite.

thank you all very much :)

I've been using goose lately, lots of them for free during goose season. Turkey are my favorite, but they are harder to come by around here.

Turkey Primaries are what I use most of the time ,but Goose primaries work well also, just not quite as tough. :)

Turkey Primaries for me, but I like Turkey tail feathers also. I like the way they look.

Really, you can use about any feather that fits the size requirement you are looking for (of course raptors exluded). After that, it's pretty much a question of strength and durability. I've used pigeon feathers found on the sidewalk before that worked great. They're just smaller, so you won't get any fletch from them near the size of turkey or goose, but they still work. Also, if you do wish or have to deal with smaller feathers, remember that you don't have to limit yourself to any one style or number of feathers on the arrow. You can put on as many or few and in whatever position you like.

With two-feather fletches and three-feather radial fletches, I've used crow, duck, grouse, guineafowl, and other feathers. Oh, and one good thing about the goose feathers-they hold up in the rain much better than turkey feathers because of the waterproof oils in them. I've been out in the rain with arrows fletched with goose hen feathers with a turkey cock feather, and the goose feathers are still standing up long after the turkey feather has went flat and kaput.
