These points are some of my favorite point types so I thought I'd practice making some. I made one last night, but that didn't work out so well. I dropped it and broke an ear and the tip off. It was ugly anyway! >:(
I decided to try again and this is what I came up with.
Flint river 2-3/8" long.
The flake pattern and symmetry could be better but at least I didn't drop it...yet.

That's a nice looking piece of rock. How long does it take you to turn out something like that?

I probably worked on that thing for 2 hours :-[

That would look good in a back lit case..Thanks for the pic's..

Wow I would have thought it would take much longer. Well I'm sure I could pound at rock for twice as long and have nothing to show for it LOL. I have a new frined who lives 4 houses up from me who knaps. I really can't wait for him to have the time to give me my first lesson. Until then I will live vicariously through all the fine points on here.

sawfiler,thats very nice
that thing looks like it would leave one hell of a wound cavity too
ive tried making a pine tree a couple of times, but they never look that good.
love your work,and that rock

Very nice,I love them, they are some of JohnT's favorites also. He makes a lot of them but not any nicer than that one. :)

Saw ...was that a slab or a spall or big flak????The more I look at it the better i like it and I liked it a lot the first time I saw it...

Don't drop that one! I don't know why your so critical of your work - that thing looks perfect enough to me ;). I see that red band in there you were talking about. Need to find some rock with a bullseye in the middle and give her a shot..
-
heck yea Shanon that things very cool...
I broke one last night too. I had a 11'' type2 dagger almost done.. and i had just a few more flakes to take and i had a flake that tuck to much of the platform with it and i had a big dip in the side of it.. and it just went down hill from there.

Sweet point, well done! I know what you mean in trying to seek perfection in every point. I have been beating on rock for decades and haven't made a perfect point yet. I have plenty that are nicer than others (that one would go in my keepers frame BTW). It is fun to keep trying & improving.

Sweet! Looks just like a classic pine tree to me.
-
wickedly sharp looking point! i have a hard time geeting serrations that look that good.
-
Whoa, that's a nice one!
-
Glad you fellers like it.
Piper, it was a spall. I don't have much luck working slabs. I suppose if it was thick enough to use some percussion on I might could do it. :-\
I just have trouble cleaning up the flat sides of slabs with just pressure.
Pappy, JohnT is waaaay better at Pine trees than me. I'm gonna try it again real soon though ;D
Jesse, that's a bummer. I can't imagine working an 11" piece of rock. That sounds like a good way for me to work on 4 2.5" points at once.

thatd give ya an ouchy! awesome work

Jamie...Have you been watching Wonder Pets?
