Hi guys! - Just finshed tillering this bow after another heat correction sideways to get the string to line up!
It's spliced hungarian osage, stiff flipped up tips; really like the tiller and the way it feels in the hand when pulled. But I felt insecure in the process cause of the stiff tips, so please give me your comments!!
The bow is for a fellow with long arms, so this is pulled to 31"
Will be up for BOM when all the finishing work is done.
What do you yella wood experts think??

Looks good,maybe the bottom a little stiff but if you are at your weight I would leave it be. Love the tips.Very nicely done.Someone will be glad to have that one.Can't wait to see it all dolled up. :)
Love to see an unstrung profile of that if you have one. :)

I still have some extra pounds, so I could still scrape it a little!
Where would you take some off, Pappy? Outward from mid-limb??

I would take a little out right out of the fad on the bottom limb and the last 1/3 before you get to where you flipped the tip.I would leave the top alone.It looks OK. I may just be seeing things,hard
to tell from a picture but the bottom looks a little stiffer,just needs a little catching up. :)

Those tips are awesome. I think I'll try and do some like that on my next bow. I agree with everything Pappy said. ;D

Right off the bottom fade, but don't get carried away with it...it looks good the way it is...and DANG I wish I had your skill with tips!
Looks like you could use that thing as a bayonett!!!

I'm no yellow wood expert by any stretch but agree the bottom limb is a tad stiffer. Looks great otherwise though.

That's what got me insecure: in the beginning of the tillering that limb wanted to bend more, it actually is the one with the WAY narrower year rings. I had decided for the one limb to be the upper due to that bit of reflex right out of the handle.
I tillered from 29" to 31" today and the upper limb has taken half an inch of string follow on that way.
So I'm back to a bit more scraping on that lower limb.

How about heating the upper limb, instead? It seems thicker or maybe its twisting a bit. The bow is not right at center on the pin, or it's asymmetrical?

Have been doing some detective work on the Ed Scott video trying to figure out how he shapes the transition from bending limb into stiff tips; I really like how that comes out in his bows! This in my trial of doing similar; it's hard to picture how it's trapezoidal towards the belly side. But you should get the idea...

it makes perfect sense! i found with the oak bows i made this year that heat treating toward the end of tillering is the way to go. I'd heat both limbs back flat down and then train em into shape that last little bit. Probly gain 10# draw weight to play with, and then you can reduce the mass of the bow and it will shoot faster.
On the other hand, you could just leave it. It's a cool looking bow, the stiffer limb just being bottom.

Yes I'm with radio on that. Heat treating is effective in the last steps of tiller and especially if it has taken set. It's all explained in tbb4. The best book I ever had!
