Title: Novaculite knife
Post by: FlintWalker on October 06, 2009, 07:55:02 pm
Here's a little knife I put together the other night. The blade is novaculite and the handle is (I think) a jaw bone from a coyote. I found it while sang digging waaay back in the woods. I'm trading it to a guy at work. He just wanted a point, but I thought I'd spice it up a little. ;D

Thanks all! Could be a dog Steve. I remember popping one with a .22 back there last fall and not finding it. >:D Bob, I've done fairly well this year. Been sang digging 4 times and dug about a pound dried. Destructo, I wouldn't put anything past Eddie. I seen him try to steal the jaws from a VERY ripe river otter once. I bet his neighbors never have a dog long enough to get attached to it. ::)

I just can't imagine anybody not knowing what "sang" digging is. I guess it's more prevalent around the Appalachian and Blue Ridge mountains. ??? We call digging Ginseng, "sang diggin". I bet Hillbilly knows all about it. :)

I am going to have to switch over from glass to something else. I work outside, but the other half has been stuck with glass flakes three times.... in the house! Third time I thought it was going to be WWIII and a half. So I need to switch material. I really like the look of this Novaculite. Do you know where you got the stuff?

Awesome knife. Aint just the southern boys with the sang digging. When I first saw it, was gonna ask if you were from Wisconsin. Used to be tons of it around here, then came the boom in the 80's. Every Tom, Dick, and Harry was out trying to get rich. Dummies didn't know enough to leave the young stuff, and now it's hard as heck to find anything. They still grow it on the farms, mostly, but not the same.
Anyway, impressive piece. dogleg
