I just started working with some bamboo. i have always been a un-backed selfbowyer but i have to broaden my horizons. so i worked out this new bow, got a bunch of materials and started putting stuff together. this is what i came up with. i started with about 2 inches of reflex and after tillering i still have 1" of reflex. its 66" long tip to tip and 68# @ 28". she shoots real nice. i am glad i have lots of material now cuz this was fun to build and shoots great.... although i am still a big fan of my un-backed selfbows, boo and ipe shoots nice, but i am goin to stick with hunting with my osage bow, for this year anyways. so what you do think of it?- Ryan

I'm a new member... (first disscussion board of my life) and yours was only the 3rd picture I saw.....but just have to say nice work and great detail. Like the cabin too!
Ipe has been a challenge for me to find. Closest I've come is a flooring comp. with a couple sticks of brazilian somthin or another. Any suggestions?

Looks like all that fine Montana fresh air is good for you. Quite the weapon and bookmarked un Laminates BOM fun, too.

Good looking bow. How thick was your IPE stock starting out? That boo looks real thick. Did you taper it?
sorry for so many questions. I am getting ready to start on my second one and would like for my belly to be rounded like that. Everything like yours. Instead of dead flat belly. I just want to make sure I don't overpower the IPE.
I love it.

Great looking bow, as always, Ryan! Nice job!

Very nice, as all your bows, Ryan; she sure looks like a screamer!
You could have narrowed out the nocks far more, I think!

I almost hurt myself looking at that one!!!! :o Nice job! Beautiful finish work and beautiful tiller. Look out you might win BOTH BOM catagories!!!! :) -Josh

thanks a lot guys.
the boo is a little thick, i was kinda experimenting since it was my first boo backed bow. next time i will thin it down a bit more. i wanted a pretty heavy one so i figured it was ok if it was thicker.
bigcounty- i would make your boo thinner than mine. unless you want a real heavy bow. i like the rounded belly personally. for regular unbacked selfbows i prefer a flat belly but with a backed bow especially such a hard belly wood i really enjoy this rounded belly. my piece of ipe was 3/4 thick when i started....probably didnt need so much to start but it was a starting point and learning curve!

Good lookin. I really like the finish work, leather and overlays. How wide did you go at handle and to tips? I just finished a hickory backed that is 1.25 down to 3/8. Well done.
Hey Ryan, you gonna make some snowshoes?

Really like the way the colors blend on this one. Ought to make a real good hunting bow.
