I have been so busy with the move and getting ready for hunting season and making bows for everyone else, i finally finished up my hickory bow...i actually finished it up a little while ago but this is the first i could post it. but its got ipe tip overlays, a leather grip dyed in walnut stain, about 63- 64" long and about 55# @ 28 1\2" .its a nice shooter, i am very happy with this one. i stil prefer to shoot about 60# for hunting so this is a little lighter than i usually like, but i am sure it would get the job done very well. thanks for looking at it- Ryan

Nice hunting bow, Ryan. Hickory is a perfect bow wood for the dryer Western states.
-
Very nicely done, as usual! Your work is always worth a look. Good luck makin' meat.
-
I bet living out there, you can get hickory to really shoot well
-
Great looking bow. You did well.
-
Fine looking bow Ryan, looks like a hunter. Hope you get to try it out on some of those Montanimals.
-
Good looking bow Ryan, ought to be a good hunter!
-
That's a beauty! Jawge
-
That bow just says,"take me,take me, I'll not let you down"! I really like it.Nice unbraced profile.
-
Very nice bow!
-
i like it man...never had much luck recurving hickory, but then i never tried that often, either
-
I like it! Good to see your back up and running.
-
You've been having too much fun exploring the Great State of Montana! Welcome back bow making. Got your fine hickory weapon bookmarked for Sept BOM, too.
-
I sure like the looks of that bow Ryan ,bet its a sweet shooter.
-
Somebody else said it,but that looks like a dandy huntin' bow.Good Job,I like it. Good huntin' this season. God Bless
-
Great Bow! Elegant enough to be called art, but obviously a meat making machine. Nice work.

That is a comfortable looking bow, Ryan. I like that old, Bear look.
-
Nice lookin' bow...has a familiar design to it...shot the Eel the other night and it was hittin' pretty hard--..really fine work....say....you're not trying to compensate for what looks like your own physical weight gain by lowering the poundage on your bows are you???? Lol......
-
Thanks for the nice words guys.
I prefer to use steam to bend almost anything anymore, but this one i did do with dry heat. its not a very severe bend so i wasnt worried about raising a splinter.
Dax- Yeah thanks for the weight gain comment....and i have only put on 5 pounds since moving out here...lol just stocking up for winter like a big fluffy grizzly bear.......oh and who you talk about putin on some pounds...your mirror broke?...lol
-
Nice Bow Ryan.... I like the Simple and User Freindly....no Special Finishes....no Fancy Grips....thats Just Me!! And I Love the Countryside there too! But You need to do a little work on the Image Situation there....I am not sure the Plaid Shirts are way cool in Montana...but Dey is Stylin in Da UP....eh!! And I don't see the Weight Gain....but then I could not get past the Plaid and Camo Combination....now if you were Wearing Shorts and Boots ....with the Plaid Shirt rolled up to da Elbows ...wit da Long John Top underneath.....now thats the Rave........ >:D.....Just ask Dana!!!!!
-
very nice bow, bet it shoots nice.
-
Uh....me gain weight?? ::) Uh....let's talk about hunting or something else...lol.
-
Rad bow!! I love your style man, very nice. Bet you feel at home up in Montana!

i love the handle on that. it looks like its been used alot. im gunna have to try try dyeing some one day.
-
Thanks, recurve shooter- if you dye with the walnut stain- soak the leather for about a 1/2 hour then pull it out and very gently ring the water out of it. the harder you ring it out the more "antiqued" or used it looks. if you give it a real good squeeze it looks marbled.
-
cool. i'll have to try that sometime.
-
Really good looking bow Ryan. How are you liking Montana so far? Just seeing that pic makes me homesick and I'm not even from there!

We are loving it here. lots to go do in the outdoors and enough different varieties of game to keep you occupied...only problem is i am not considered a resident yet so its too expensive to try to get some of the cooler tags. i have to stick with surplus deer tags for now.....but come february i can pick up a turkey tag and a srping bear tag....going to be a bad year to be a bear!
-
Ryan, how wide is this bow at the fades, and how did you design the limbs??
Have a really nice hickory stave and want to try a similar bow!
Thanks, Frank
-
Love Hickory! That is a beauty.
