This is a bow I just made for Marius (dustybaer). It's made from HHB billets backed with a plain sawn White Ash backing. The deflex in the handle was glued in and the recurves were steam bent. About half of the reflex was heat treated in with the rest glued in, total reflex before tillering was about 4 1/2". The bow is tillered to 26" but his draw length is 25", it pulls about 50# @ 25". I shot the bow several times with a 600 grain arrow at a 25" draw and performance is impressive, I think he will be pleased. Here's a few pictures

Whew - its a dandy and bookmarked, too!
-
man Marc that is a thing of beauty!!! looks super fast too! :) josh
-
I'd say Marius will be retiring the bow I gave him when he receives this beauty! Very nice! ;)
-
Nice bow Marc. I'm sure Marius will love it.
Greg, I doubt that Marius will ever put the bow you gave him aside for any other! ;)
-
Phew! Very nice work... as usual. :o
-
Well I hope he likes it. He wanted a recurve out of HHB because the wood is not available to him
-
Wow! You never disappoint Marc. I'm sure he will love it.
-
Sweet little recurve Marc, how long is it?
-
Well I guess I should put more information on this bow :)
The bow is 56" N to N and the limbs are a shallow D section 1 1/4" wide tapering to 3/8" nocks
-
marc did you chase a ring on the ash board as before? do think that would be a good backing for walnut? sweet bow btw. as usual.
-
Very nice Marc. Lots going on with woods in that handle. I like it alot. Got a close up of that?
-
Looks like a great bow. Lots of time in that one I'm sure. How long is it? Looks like a great design for a shorty.
-
Another nice one ..Looks like it would be smooth..
-
Nice looking bow Marc. Im sure Marius will be pleased. If he isn't he can send it to me.
-
oh man, this is so cruel. i'm at work and they blocked photobucket linked pictures. which means i can read all your comments, but can't see the pictures. you guys sure know how to torture somebody. but that means it's gonna look so much sweeter tonight, when i get home. ;D
greg, pat is absolutely right. i would never retire two-deer (for any bow). that's almost like betraying a friend. by the way, i shot a two-day tournament this weekend. the new hickory boardbow on saturday (and i shot well below my average). so i picked up two-deer on sunday and my shooting improved so drastically, that i managed to beat my wife (which only happens once or twice a year). she still beat me overall ;D and took third place for primitive bows.
-
Yeah, very nice work Marc - as ever.
I was talking to Marius and Andreas this Weekend on the tournament and they told me about their deal with you.
I'm very exited to see the bows from Canada here in Germany near to me.

Awesome looking hunting bow, if that was made in 60-65# and lh it would be perfect:)
-
my wife just downloaded the pictures and sent them to me by e-mail. the bow IS perfect. what a beauty. especially the recurves and the tips. that full-draw just blew me away. what a perfect bend. marc, you are truly a master of your trade.
and yes, she DOES look fast. my wife already said, i'll probably overshoot every target for a while, unless i get heavier arrows. ;D
by the way, i love the way you shaped that handle, marc. can't wait to shoot it (but i will be patient, as promised ;D)
-
Beautiful bow Marc, very well done.I am sure he will love that. :)

That bow looks very good. Fine work!
And now I'm waiting for the next pics ;)
-
Thanks all
Yes the backing is taken from an Ash stave I had. Chased a ring on it and then cut the backing.
I do have a closeup of the handle Tim. I'll upload one later
The dimensions are further up Jesse but the overall length is 57", measured around the curves of course
A bit longer to wait for yours Andreas but soon.
-
:o As always Marc, another fantastic bow. I've probably said it before, but this style of R/D recurve that you've perfected is one of my favorites. Keep posting them!!
-
Thanks Travis
Here a close up of the handle

very nice wood combo. what is it?
-
Marc, as always, a sweet piece of working art! I will say that this is like an all wood super shrew bow, Ron LaClair's. I think if he was to see this , he would be contacting you for one! Keep 'em coming and good shootin, Steve
-
Marius: It's a multiple laminate of HHB, Hickory, Zebrawood, Cocobolo and Black Ash
Steve: I've heard of a super shrew but don't recall what they look like offhand.
These bows are hand-full to make and limb stability is very touchy but once they are finished they are something else to shoot.
-
That's a really great bow!!!
-
thanks marc.
frank, maybe we'll meet at a tournament one day and you can see it in person (or even shoot it, if you don't draw over 25" ;D ).
-
That would be nice to see that bow (and to meet you of course) but my draw is 29.5" >:( >:( >:(
-
ok, no shooting for you then >:D
-
>:(
-
Well Frank this bow has not been tillered to a 29" draw so I agree with Marius, no shooting for you :).
-
Another nice looking bow, this heat treating looks very effective!! I haven't had the nerve to try it yet, but a freind of mine recently had fairly good success on a self ash bow that he moderately heat treated, it kept a good profile but chrysalled very slightly.I would love to try out one of your bows if you wheren't so far away!!! Do you have any experience with ordinary hornbeam because that grows over here but not HHB (that I can find)???
-
I always love looking at your bows Mark. Seems like they would all be rocket launchers with the profiles that your gluing up. Great looking tips as well. I bet he will be quite pleased.
-
oh yes, he will ;D
-
i just found out today, that it's on its way. I'M ONE EXCITED DUSTYBAER (and so is my wife, 'cause she's getting one too :-* )
-
well, well, well Marius - I#m exited too and I have to wait such a long time just to see her - maybe touch ::)
-
That's a wonderful bow Marc.I like everything about it. Great work. God Bless
