Title: Shortened bamboo locust.
Post by: mika on July 05, 2006, 05:19:09 am
Originally 59" n/n, 57# @ 26",  4 1/2"  brace, slightly perry-reflex Bamboo Black locust, both limbs equal length.

Now 50" n/n, 50# @ 23", 5" (photo ~6") brace, slightly perry-reflex, trapezoid Bamboo Black locust, longbow type of limb lengths as lower limb shorter. Was shot 21" 260 grains arrow to 207 yards with 20" draw.

Marc may used titebond for glue, i really dont know because newer got answer or havent seen any titebond glue (i use polyurethane glue) ?

excellent details...

be careful on the tips... they seem a little bit thin at the nock... and you may want a little overlay on them... especially if you use some of the hi performance strings...

excellent tiller and finish... you have an eye for detail

Hi Mika,

I saw your post on "primitive archery" I am also a fan in building ALL Boo bow , usually I make them out of 2 pcs of raw boo pre tillered, glue them together and then , final tillering is on the side.

I have a short draw length of 23.5 inches so I am always interested on how some one can share with me how to built  a short Boo bow.

Pls write to me via robt188@yahoo.com

Regards,

Robin

I second what Russell said about the limb tips.  If you are going to shoot arrows with only 5 grains per pound you want to be real carefull.  I would really hate to see the nocks snap off. Pretty design and pretty finish. How about a full draw picture. Justin

That is beautiful.  Boo does not overpower the belly?

otan nyt mika vastuun kirjoittaa puolestasi.

D goane: he likes to brace his bows quite high as far as i know.

He also likes VERY slim nocks. Don't worry, in his own words he has never had a tip break off.

Onko tämä jousi Mika, Marcin alunperin valmistama?

PS: sorry for the Finnish.

Very nice looking bow, I like the belly, unique how it comes to a center ridge, does it have that all the way to the tips?

Same here, Robin, I've got the exact same draw length, so when I saw this bow I was really intrested because of that, not to mention the amazing craftsmanship.

I'm a bit confused. Did Mika or Marc make this bow? i believe there was a previous bow that Marc had made and Mika had altered somewhat.

I believe Marc made it first, but mika made some major changes on the bow. for example shortening it down, making a new handle on a different spot etc etc. At least that's what he said on the Finnish forum a long time ago.
But he never said that he made it. only modified. and he also mentions Marc's choice of glue.

Lovely.  Makes me want to do one that short with BL and see how deep a draw I can get.
