Title: What finish for snake skin backing?
Post by: osage outlaw on August 29, 2009, 08:04:57 pm
I just put some snake skins on a bow for the first time, and need to know what kind of finish to put over them.  I plan on using this bow for hunting, so I don't want anything real glossy.  Does anyone have a suggestion on what to use?  Thanks.

I use Tru-Oil on all my bows, with or without snake skins. Tru-Oil has a glossy finish so I give the bow a quick spray of satin poly to kill the shine. Makes for a durable finish for any conditions.

I use tru-oil also, but, I use 0000 or 00000 steel wool to dull it,then buff to bring out a nice satin finish.  God Bless

Tru-oil or spray satin spar urethane.
