Title: Bamboo backed maple core ipe belly hybrid bow (not for botm)
Post by: Ryano on August 26, 2009, 05:37:10 pm
Here's one I just put the finishing touches on. It's off the same form as last one I posted but its 2" shorter at 58" ntn and it pulls a little over 40#@28" Don't let the light draw weight fool ya though it smokes a arrow. I wouldn't be a bit afraid to take this bow hunting.

That is definately a beauty Ryan! I bet that leather grip was a pain in the rump to get right. Was there a trick or do you just trim a little til you get it right? Did you measure it at different spots? Sorry just curious how different people do their grips.

That's fantastic. I love the look of that recurve with the deflexed handle. What about that design helps with performance?

That is a sweet looking bow Ryan! It looks like a thoroughbred itching to run! Great combination of colors with the wood selection and your art work...love those tips!  ;) You're really turning out some fine bows!

Come on rhino, quit teasin' us and put up the trophy shot.  I been scheming on such a bow, although I need about 64" for my draw.  Played it once in glass and missed weight.  Dabbled a bunch in boo but not as pronounced.  Got stuff for another boo backed and libel to do one in the Spring.  Plumb inspirin', this one is.

Thanks guys.
Jbell, the key is to use soft stretchy leather. This is commercially tanned deer hide and its very soft and stretchy. I let it over lap in the front a little and then glue it and trim up the front and then stitch it up.

ryoon4690, I think its a combination of things....lighter outer limbs and the deflexed reflexed libs allow for good preload at brace height but still don't over stress the narrow limbs at full draw.

David, patience.... ;) I'm working on it brother...... ;D 64" long in this design I think would kind of counter productive, you'd be better off with less deflex. How long do you draw anyways? These pull smooth as anything to 28"

Thanks everyone for the nice complements.

30ish on a cutout riser like that.  And I hate fanger pinch.  I been shootin' a 64" recurve forever, so 64" works for me.  But you are right, the design can be made to work shorter.  Had a 60" flatbow (big name glass bow) that was way smooth to draw a while back.

Wouldn't bother me did that lil darlin' of yers sneak into the frame.  I expect she's gettin about bossy by now, huh?  ;-)

Yeah, really nice. Looks like a good and quick shooting bow.
I`m working out a plan to do something like this with rests of wood I have in store, Osage, Yew, Maple, Locust with Bamboo backing By the way, what would be a good combination? I think of Bamboo/ Osage/ Yew?
I have only experiences with BOO/ Osage.

Wow, I never noticed your monkey arms before David.... ::)
Just for you I'll sneak in a recent picture. She is into everthing!  >:(

Thanks Dusty, glad you like it.

uwe, I'd use the yew for a center lam and osage on the belly, or a maple center lam and osage belly.

Awesome bow Ryan. I like everything on that one. I did one with a maple core as well and it is smokin fast.  Your really making me want a short bow with a reverse riser like that though. :) great job.

Ryan, Very nice work. Kind of reminds me of my friends old Kodiak Magnum recurve I'm making a string for, but with a much better limb design for natural materials.. Same maple core, boo and Ipe for the glass ;)..

I know how fast that thing is...Be proud as you have probably got new trend going here.

Rich
