as some of you know im messin around with some cane. im shooting a 55 lb glass powered recurve. will self nocks work? i already had one idioticly thrown togeather arrow explode on me...dont want to repeat that. it hurt. will self nocks work? or do i need to try to make bone or hardwood inserts?
-
oh, and which end do i put the nock in?
-
i dont see why self nocks wouldnt work
you would put them on the opposite end of the point lol
put the point on the wider end of the shaft, the nock on the narrow end
this gives the shaft natural weight forward and taper

thanks sailordad. thats what i thought but i wasnt sure.

Self nocks in cane out of a glass bow work just fine. Cut them in the small end and wrap in front of the cut with sinew or thread. When I wrap them with thread I soak the thread with TB3 or Super- Glue.

will do. spent the last hour trying to straighten them. got 7 done so far. man it takes forever.

...its the journey, not the destination! ;D Don't worry about the time it takes. Enjoy the ride. ;)
What the others said. Self nocks in cane work fine with any kind of bow.

got 7 straight in an hour, wish i worked that fast.
usually takes me about an hour on each when it comes to striaghtening.
however most that i have made so far have been wood shoots,do have some cane set aside for hunting arrows.

well mine arnt perfectly stait yet. im going through and doing a few every night, getting the major kinks out, then i'll go back on a weekend when i aint got a bunch of stuff to do and get them perfect. thank yall alot for all the help.

You are better off doing them that way anyway. If you try to straighten them all at once you end up re-bending what you have already straightened. I work the internode areas first, lay them down flat until at least tomorrow and then work the nodes...and let them cool thoroughly before fine tuning.
Cane arrows, like hardwood shoot arrows don't have to be razor straight. As long as the nock and point line up and the arrow spins true you are good to go. ;)

cool. thanks for all the info. i may get one decent arrow out of the 30 or so canes i got cuz it's my first go around, but i like playing with it.
