How wide do you guys bore out the cane for footings and or nocks?
-
I never bore out cane. I don't use foreshafts and I use self nocks. Sometimes I do add a filler to the center hole but I use a dowel or bamboo skewer that fits already. TBIII glue will fill in any voids.
-
Me too
-
I dont. I dont see the need in borring any thing for the nocks. I just reinforce the nock with sinew.
-
Same here-self-nocks and no foreshafts. Why put a piece of wood on the front of your shaft that's weaker than the rest of the shaft?
-
I just find the closest fit dowell, chamfer the end and glue it in place for some added reinforcement. Probably overkill, but doesn't hurt.
-
If you use tonkin cane there is no need to plug either end, with rivercane I usually plug the point end.
-
I would imagine a cane arrow with dowel would be extremely strong, not to mention good and heavy for big game (with a heavy bow of course:), love to see some pics:)

Wouldn't you know Paleo has a great article on it
