Title: A bow from US..
Post by: knightd on July 30, 2009, 07:42:29 pm
In an earlier thread, Pappy put a post up for Gary Davis asking for someone to help a gentleman here in North Carolina to build his first self bow.  The gentleman being, Chris Swan, lives close to me and I answered the thread only to find out, due to his fight with cancer, he is not going to be able to build a bow on his own.  So with the help of Pappy and Gary Davis, I decided to build Chris Swan his first osage self bow from the stave that Gary Davis so graciously sent to me for him.  It is nothing fancy just a good straight osage self bow.  It is 65" NTN 47# @ 28" with elk antler limb tip overlays provided by Boo (Bobby Keller).  May it last him many years and make many kills as it was intended to.  I dedicated the bow to Chris' friends in archery.  I would like to thank all of my brothers in archery for who they are and for what they have become due to our shared love of primitive archery.

You did good, David, but where is all the pretty colored wood? It looks a lot better than what you described to me, you are a good, humble guy.

a man at MOJAM suggested to me the use of toilet cleaner (in the crystal form, dissolved in water) to bring the aged look much further into the light to darkish brown stage

I think it's great that you guys all came together and put the effort into something noble. It is people like you who make the difference in a time when people are taught not to trust each other and this proves to me that there is still brotherhood and value around. Thanks for your work and what a great job/story on the bow.
