Howdy yall,
Here is my latest. I like the way this bow looks a lot. It has good power, 60lb.@27". I've made my first cane arrows and they are shooting accurately with this bow at 30 yards which is really all I'm going to shoot in the field. After shooting string follow is 1.5 in. and settles back to 1/2 inch overnight. I shot this bow about 100 times before painting it. This was a fun bow to make and the first bow I've painted. I don't think I like painting my bows, though. I kinda liked this bow just plain. Hemp wrap - simple. I found a bit of tortoise shell smashed on the side when running one day and epoxied it as a strike plate. Turned out well.
I made the quiver you'll see in the pics, also. The body of it is made from the base of a royal palm frond. It folds up into a cone nicely when soaked for a bit. I just wrapped it with hemp and made a split bamboo rod to attach a cord to. I'm happy with how it turned out and it is very lite.
Here are pictures. Thanks for looking.

excellent tiller and great job on the painting. did you find it difficult to tiller?
-

Fine looking bow, I like the paint job on it. The quiver looks simple, lite, and effective. :)

Thanks guys,
This one was a little more difficult to tiller with the scallops but I didn't find it that different. It just took a little more time. Overall, I thought that they'd affect the process more than they did...
Hey, El Destructo, I stained the bow's back and belly with Cherry stain which accounts for the color. Did you use red oak boards for some of this type that you made? I recall seeing one in a post you did of your bow stash. Did you post that on here, I didn't search any others while making this. I'd like to see others if possible.
I appreciate y'all lookin.

Very nice. Does the scallop design serve a purpose or is it just for looks?

Great looking bow. I like how you finished it with the paint and stain...

Nice bow, I really like the scallops. Would like to try and make one some day myself.
-
yes, what is the Effect of the scallops, other than in terms of its appearance?
-
Ditto everybody else. We'll look at this fine bow in a couple of days for July BOM fun.
-
Far as I can figure they are for looks. If they were on the other side, I'd speculate about some type of longer distance gauge, but...
Gotta be just for looks. Thanks for compliments.

The Finish on all of my N.A. Bows is Bacon Grease / Beeswax Mixture....nothing else....unless I can get my hands on some real Bear grease!!! And yes that is Horsehair from a Neighbors Show Horse....they Cut the Tail for Shows....and He saves it for Me.
