I made my first fire this weekend,I had wanted to do this for a while but just never took the time.Jesse cam down and I was caught up around the shop so we took a woods walk and he showed me what to gather,Cedar bark,a cedar branch for the bow and drill, then gave me a lesson on how to do it.It worked out great, after a little fumbling around I finely got it.Man that was cool. And
I thought building a fire with Diesel was fun. ;) ;D ;D

Way to go Pappy looks like your backward progress is coming along nicely. How long did that process take?Ron
-
Probably an hour including gathering the stuff to do it with. Got the coal on the second try.Maybe just beginners luck but Jesse said my technic was good and with a good set I should be on my
way.We gathered the stuff pretty quick. :) I plan on getting some better stuff as soon as I get the chance.I want to do one with just a hand drill but I want to get this perfected first. :)

Way to go, Pappy. You sure you didn't soak that spindle in diesel? I know you like your petrochemicals. ;D
-
Was that cedar bark in your tinder bundle?Ron
-
First fire gave me the same feeling of my first stone kill. Cool stuff Pappy! congrats.
-

Congrats Pappy. ;D It's a great feeling. You should be especially happy seeing that you got it with stuff that you just gathered. That is a lot tougher than using someones already dry and ready setup.

That's inspiring Pappy! I've been wanting to do also. I have some catalpa and sassafrass ready to try and haven't. But now you put the Spark in me to get after it! Great Job! It was nice to meet you at Cloverdale! Good shootin,Steve

yea i was very impressed.. he pretty much got it on his 1st try and did it in the middle of a thunderstorm i mean it was pooring down rain when he did that. crazy.

Congratulations! Teach me please! ;D

Way to go Mark, are you going to put away the diesel can. If so let me know where its at so when I get there I can start the fire so you dont have to like last year.

Haha, good job pappy, I might see if I can conquer a friction fire in the last camping trip this summer.
-
I'm looking forward to my first also. Good work Pappy. 8)

that allmost looks like weed you are burning ha ha.

making a fire with sticks and human ingenuity is absolutely magical. I never tire of doing it and it's always a thrill. I've made a lot of bowdrilled fires, but it's still special whenever I do it.

What he said. Good job Pappy. After seeing this I'm inspired to go out and make another for myself.

Nice Job Pappy!! It was a longer quest for me.. took a good bit of work to get that fisrt fire, you where fortunate to have someone show you the ropes. Super fun though, congrats on yours.
