I've being wanting to do something of the kind for a wile.
Just a Guava shoot, a couple of Guava arrow shafts tied on the back and some heavy wrapping at the handle ( most of the strass would be there on an untapered shoot/branch )
Hoping to get a hunting weight bow at least mid 50's
I'm gonna let the glue cure good for a couple more days before I put a sting on it,...really curious now :P
posting this pictures to see the difference once I get it to bend ( if it even works :D )

seemed that a Zebra hide strike plate was only fitting on a bow like this

Forgot to mention, the bow is 59 1/2" ntn
-
cant wait to see the finished tiller and hear how you rate it. this would be a great survival/quick bow minus the glue up. great idea on some experimenting.

-
Lookin good Manny, I guess you could always add more arrow shoots to bring up the weight and adjust tiller. Great project!!
-
This is going to be interesting. From Manny's "Furniture Quality" bows to a real primitive weapon.
-
;D Thanks guys, hope to get a string on it tomorrow when i get back from hunting (if I got time)
-
Very cool Manny. I have been wanting to make a bow like this.
-
Looking good, Manny. Jawge
-
Oh that's jsut cool :)! Looks pretty stout, might be over 60# from the looks?
-
I think you mighy be right kegan, it would surely be just by judging physical weight
-
Dang Manny! Very nice!
Had thought of trying that sort of thing on the Blackthorn (Sloe) we have here, but never got to it.
PS: Right now I am in Brazil trying to find some Strawberry Guava ;D ;D ;D
-
Allright, I put a string on it, brace is 5 1/8", I'll let it sweat for an hour or so, than start working the draw in
(http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d124/NorthShoreLB/001-11.jpg)
-
She is looking sweet already, you got the touch buddy!!
-
well, I shot her in, as expected she's a bit sluggish but was shooting 550gr carbo arrows good enought for hunting, problem is that makes a lot of noise drawing, I'm soaking her in danish oil as a finish and hoping it will get rid of the friction noise,...ho yeah 48# @26"
-
I can't wait for a full draw. Manny, do you think it owuld be a viable hunting weapon (in terms of performance), noise excluded?
-
.....well, I think that if a big boar come into range I probably would let it pass :D ;D :D But I think it would do the job on deer or goats, even small pigs.
The Danish oil is still really tacky,...I have a set of 5 1/6" ramin arrows that might fly good out of this bow, I will try them once is dry,...I might even take a video to show how it shoots
-
Maybe you could jsut beat it over the head, it is a stick after all ;)?
-
My Kind of Bow, Cool 8)
-
Yeah my kind of primitive simple but effective.Cool bow. Hammertime
-
yes on the video
-
Thanks Guys.
after the Danish oil I soaked it inn coconut oil, the noise is completly gone, It's actually a quite bow, I was shooting 460gr Ramin arrows and it would definatly be a valuable hunting weapon,,......in the next few days I'll take a video shooting it too

I decided to get rid of the strike plate,...I like the way the Hemp came out after the soaking

Very cool bow, Manny!!! 8)
-
Looks like a Killer Manny, and I love imagining when this style was bow was first done, and how hungry the bowyer might have been getting it together to get some food..
-
Oh that is too cool Manny. Now I want to try ;D. Did you just peel the bark and let it cure for a couple weeks?
-
thanks Guys.
Yes Kegan, just peeled the bark and put it in a hot car for a month,...if I had to do it again, I would get the 2 shoots a bit bigger and I would put a storter 3rd one on top
-
Very Nice!! you make those basket quivers yourself? Very Cool bow.
Mike
-
I gotta hand it to you, Manny, you've got panache. Is that a sarong? Outstanding!
It's so warm and humid here, that looks like a good idea.
That bow is inspiring. Ditto, on the quiver question. You make that yourself? Where'd you get the information to weave that?
Thanks,
Parnell
-
Absolutely Primitive not to mention very interesting. Looking forward to see how this one "stacks up" :D for July Laminate BOM fun.
-
thanks fellas,
Didn't make the quiver, got it from Kustom King, but if I recall correctly a few issues back on TBM there was a tutorial in how to make one
My Indonesian male sarong is indeed real comfortable, ...it just seemed the riight garment for taking the pictures of this one bow :)
-
Lil bow turned out great manny! "Man can do when man wants to" ;)
The sarong is a nice change...great way to hide that big butt? ;D ;D
-
Looks good Manny. You don't neccessarily need a fire breather to have fun with it.
-
LOL Timo, I've being looking for the best way to cover my big but :D
thanks Adam
-
Here's a video shooting the little bow,..I definatly would take it hunting
-
Sorry the video is pretty neat, but photobucket is giving me a hell of a time,...can't even access it right now >:(
-
Very cool Manny!
-
Thanks Bob,..you got a PM
Photobucket is driving me nuts >:( >:( can't get to my albums,..is there a way to post a video directly from the camera ?
-
Unfortunately no. Have you tried uploading it to Youtube?
-

........thank you Nightmyth, that worked ;D
-
You're welcome. :) Great Video, she seems so shoot really smooth. Nice groupage ;D
-
Impressive! Enjoyed the video.
Tom (S. Texas)
-
thanks guys, ...........not bad for a bow with so little work into it ;D
-
Damn Manny, that thing shoots well :)! I wonder what it would be like it you made a stronger one with a stiffer center?
-
Web shots seems to go Ok :) Nice primitive Resourcefulness
-
thanks fellas.
What i think is pretty remarcable is how quite and handshock free it is, considering I'm not even shooting 10 grpp and those way overweight outher limbs and the fact that pretty much all the bending is at the handle.
Kegan, I thought this would be a one time deal, but after those results I might try to get a 60-65 pounder, I will use a bit more shoots this time ;D
-
Dude I can hear the ocean in the background, how close to the beach are you? That is a pretty wicked bow for some sticks tied together. You have inspired me to play around with some of the local stuff here and see what happens. I know where I can find some super straight thinner branches of osage that might make a bow like that.
-
Micheal, that's an excellent idea using osage. I think I'll try it too. How's this for a thought, since I/we would be cutting them green, we bind them together, straightening and matching them to one another while they dry.

Sounds fun, I actually have a main branch I cut a few days ago I had planed on making a hiking stick out of, I just need some stabilizer smaller branches now.
-
Neat video. You're a heck of a shot :o
-
thanks Don, I think I'm a bit lucky :)
Michael, the only way to hear the ocean from my house is on a very calm windless nite, and the waves have to be pretty big ;D no waves this time of year ;)
but thanks for the compliments,...just got back from an evening hunt and collected a few shoots, have a few ideas for an improved version :)
-
Awesome bow! Thanks for sharing it. It's cool to see something a little different.
