Post by: toms22 on June 30, 2009, 05:19:35 pm
I have a big elk shed that I got in Wy. . Well the shed made a bopper. the shed is arount 2 or 2 1/2" I was wondering if I can make a bopper out of it. Any comments would be helpful.

Elk works, but isn't nearly as heavy and solid as moose or whitetail antler. Use the Burr area for the striking surface (it's usually solid) and it'll work until you wear it down into the porous part.

elk is the only bopper material i have, you do wear throughit some, but i keep spinning it to different strike areas and it wears pretty evenly. I have pretty good luck with it. - Ryan

I sure wouldn't hesitate to try one if I had it. Only thing I've ever read about it was in Waldorf's book and like Hillbilly said - it's the softer of the antlers on this continent.
