I am terrible at iding trees and have taken field guides and everything else out with me but still can't connect the dots. does anyone know what this is?

Definitely an elm, could be American or slippery, I'm not familiar whit which species of elm you have there. Most elms are excellent bow wood.

Thanks! I was going to try and make a bow of it no matter what it was, but it's good to know that it's a nice bow wood.

what part of the world are u in?? its definitley elm, but the bark reminds me of the cedar elms we have in east texas.

I live right outside of Tulsa Oklahoma in Broken Arrow. I am lucky to have all sorts of trees to pick from around here, but it makes it a bit hard to tell what your getting. I was writing back and forth with a guy here that was going to take me out and help me figure out what was what, but I hadn't heard from him in about a month.
