Oh boy, Jamie. Looks like a neat buildalong. Jawge

They already win "Bow of the Year" for '07 as far as I'm concerned if they are making a bow with only stone tools. They will at least have my vote! I can wait to see this! Pat

Now that is inspiration !!!! You did it again Jamie, That pic of them carry that stave looks like they just conquered the world. My wife came by and saw the pic and wants to know if she can have the snaky one they are standing by,lol This is going to be cool,,, Keenan

Should be intereresting Jamie.
You would never find a young HHB that small with no branches. At that stage of growth they have branches sticking out all over the place. Looks more like Ash to me.

hey fellas they are definetly excited. it is hop hornbeam . that section of woods is loaded with trees that size most are like marc just said. twisted and loaded with small branches. this one had great grain with only a couple of pins in it. however this piece was the toughest piece ive ever had to split . was worse than elm but we did it and got 2 staves for the kids out of it. i'll keep you posted as we move along. peace

Hey Jamie, what a great shot of the kids and where did you cut that HHB down? Black Rock State Park? :-X, back of the house. If you privately email me your phone # and address I will see if I can drop in on the 11th of Feb for a few minutes if you have the time. I have to pick up a canoe for restoration in Brattleboro Vt. on the 10th. Amy has to be back to work on Monday so it would be a short visit.
