I haven't done many recurves. This is a BL board with some lots of sever ring violations backed with some light hemp fabric I found called summercloth. It is 62" ntn, 65# at 27". 1 & 5/8 inches wide in lower limbs. Had some splintering in steaming so I put thin bl lams on belly at tips (6" long). Hemp painted a dark brown. Urethane over all. Hemp wrapping on grip. Osage tip overlays.
Wow, pics my wife and I took stink. Taking more.

Couple more. Forgot to mention, I got a little twist in doing the upper curve, but it works ok
The 2x4 i'm using as a pedestal in the braced pic is yew

Looks like you did good work on that bow. Nice how you lamed the splintered area, too.
-
how bout a full draw pic. looks good.
-
Did you offset the handle to achieve a more centershot bow ?
-
That's a sweet little recurve Dave. I think we are missing a full draw pic though. ;D
-
Nice looking bow, nice finish work,O ya and what Pat said. ;) :)

That is a great looking bow! Well done. Jawge

Full draw pic. Also, my hemp cord wrap.
Yeah, the handle cut was offset for center fire. First time I tried this. I have to get it in the hands of someone who can aim it at things to see how that works. Shoots nicely across a field.
The 2x6 from which this was ripped had pretty nice grain orientation throughout the mid portion of the boards, with the grains turning out willy nill in the out outer parts. Probably contributed to splintering in the bending.
I boiled the ends for 50 minutes for bend them and they were still pretty stiff. Next time, I'll steam them out of the water and I have to set up a better form. I'll do another one this summer
Thanks to Marc SL on tip belly lam advice and to Nomadic Pirate on cord wrap

Nice bow....tiller looks good too!

Ya know, I'm really surprised at the lack of comment on the hemp fabric. This is the first such fabric backed bow I know of on this board.
-
I smoked a quite a few Bushels of Hemp in My Day.... >:D >:D >:D
And I even have Sandals....Pants and Shirts made from it too....
Peace Out.....Bro !!!!!

nice all around lines and arc on the bow, the flipped tips flow well with the full draw.

Snedeker, Great Bow! First, I love Black locust, I think it gets a bad rap because of fretting and such. Second , that reminds me somewhat of a 40's style Static recurve, and Third the backing sounds cool! I have some strips of Pet Screen, Tougher than Nails! I have been thinking of using for backing. A cat or dog can hang on this screen and you can't tell it. Sometime SOON! Good shootin, Steve
-
Bullitt, the pet screen is fiberglass, so you might consider using some silk or something instead. Thanks for the comment.
-
Silk painted a dark brown.
Silk over hemp?
-
Well that's cool Dave! Love those tip underlays.
-
Thats a sweet lookin bow>>> vry nice
-
MaceG, thanks for pointing out the mention of silk. Should have read hemp painted...
