Title: Little dovey
Post by: cowboy on June 07, 2009, 11:36:17 am
Shew, finally! Inspired by a gift from a fine gentleman Mr. Roger Hostetler "bone pile" I got one made after breaking five or six :(. Here it is right quick - now I gotta go have fun at the river ;D.

Thanks guys! Yup, that was quite a challenge for me. I wound up punching in the notches after a few dissapointing moments on others with pressure >:( ::). No fishin at the river John. Just relaxing, throwing back a few and gathering up some quartzite for next months challenge ;).

Nice points Paul :) Gathering quartzite eh :) I have to go raid the city park as I'm out of quartzite :o Hope I can find a nice big chunk :)
My bruises have almost faded from the last time I worked quartzite so I guess I'm ready to try again eh :)

Thanks GregB, Jamie. Yep, Dana - next months challenge I think will actually be quite the challenge with this junky rock ::) ;D. I picked up several, thier's not much there and it's just little rounded river cobbles. Different colors and grades - the purple is the best. I whacked on em as I was picking them up and am intrigued to say the least 8).

paul those little cobbles are what i like for making scrapers. Stand them on end and give em awack. Wouldnt take much more to turn em into a point.

Dang.

I hate it when I see other points with no step fractures, wide thin blades, and good flake patterns.  I need a nap.

Buenas notches.

Thanks xin ;D. Pat, if it weren't for getting rid of all the steps - they'd be a little wider. I'm still working on that. Thanks for asking Roger, I'm using a piece of 5/16" copper, hammered flat with the end squared off and a notched pad underneath. I'm liking it :).

I don't have a clue how to "punch" notches...but I'm gonna find out! ;D  With all the trouble I have notching, I need all the help I can get.

Thank ya Rick. Yep, Timo - thin sure don't hurt none ;D. Shannon, when I get a chance I'll take a series of pictures and try to explain how I do it. I'm sure their's lot's of ways but this is workin for me right now.
