its Hickory 55" ntn 65#s at 26" draw. I know its not perfect but it didn't break so I am pleased to show you the bow that surely could've been turned into a mastepiece by some of you more expierienced bowyers took about 1.5" of set but oh well.(http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/Richard_redwasp/Picture001-1.jpg)(http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/Richard_redwasp/Picture003.jpg)(http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/Richard_redwasp/Picture004.jpg)(http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/Richard_redwasp/Picture006.jpg)(http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/Richard_redwasp/Picture007.jpg)(http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/Richard_redwasp/Picture008.jpg)(http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/Richard_redwasp/Picture009.jpg)

Not so feeble I think. The hickory probably picked up moisture with the weather we've been having, probably helping with the set.

shoot!! looks to me like you did a fine job. i have recently done my share of short character bows. i know how tough they can be. l love snakey bows and will not turn down the opportunity to wittle on one. Great Job!!
-
asoda is right. maybe you should consider tempering the belly before you get too many shots out of it. if you do temper clamp it down straight while it cools off.
-
I Like that bow.
PD

Looks pretty nice to me!! The only thing that I can see that could use some work....is the Top Mid Limb could bend some more...looks too stiff to me...making it bend too much at the Fade...gotta love them Snakey Bows though!!!
-
thanks everyone! I'll get better I promise... ::). I havent caught any snakes yet but still looking :'(. I found it easier than I thought it would be to follow the grain ( thanks to the people and posts on here). still learning but I learned alot from this one. I should have made it longer but I lack the experience in forcing the wood to take the shape I want so I cut the stave where the tips intersect with the handle and this is the result. Next time I will try to heat the wood to shape so I can get the extra length. on to other projects. I aquired a bow from twisted limbs that I shoot all the time (sweet bow by the way Ryan), and have not come close to tillering as good as he. b ut am getting better now on to a maple sapling and HIckory backed Ipe.

Good advice here for a really nice bow. We'll look at it again next week for BOM fun.
-
Nice job, don't sell yourself short. Kenneth

Don't ya just hate it when the smoke gets in your eye while shooting ;D .
-
looks good to me!!

Must have been the Pottsville lager didnt even realize I had a cig. I am going to York county PA this weekend to see another member of this forum. we are trading some staves and I am lettting him borrow some dvds on flintknapping. Anyone know where there is some Mt. Holy agate, or Ordocian.
-
Great looking bow, wouldnt call it feeble tho, appreciate the workmanship.
-
I'd say it turned out great for only being 55" and only taking 1.5" set @ 65#. I go with El D though, touch up that top limb, mid to outer and she'll be in a lot better shape.
-
very nice,i like snaky and D style bows, i agree w/ tiller correction. myself, i try not to heat bend unless otherwise necessary. by choosing to cut the stave were tips intersected the handle you were able choose the style of bow to be made. Well Done !

Thanks Guys, I was lucky enough to be invited to Bearbowman's house this weekend, and I had a really good time. Really,Really nice people and family. any we had a few (I had a few too many) beers last night. We made a mess outta his garage breaking some rock, I think he had a good time cause when I left he said "thanks for the new addiction". We got up this morning, he helped me with finishing the flemmish string and serving. Also gave me a serving jig. We traded some staves I gave him three Hickory He gave me 2 ash and 4 either red oak or black walnut niether of us knew exactly what it was. Also I gave him some obsidian slabs some copper to make some preassure flakers and let him borrow some knapping dvds and the book "The Art Of Flintknapping" so here is the question What is this wood? and here is some quartz I wanted to find and he knew where to look. My step son calls it Hillbilly Gold. LMAO.(http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/Richard_redwasp/Picture013.jpg)(http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/Richard_redwasp/Picture014.jpg)(http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/Richard_redwasp/Picture015.jpg)(http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/Richard_redwasp/Picture016.jpg)

I think we found the motherload of quartz but we didn't have the tools we needed (big shovel and hammer) to get all that we coud've. so of course there will be a second adventure.
-
I think there will be more than one adventure. I had a great time this weekend.
Did you talk the wife into a pup yet?
Oh, I have to ask, what's up with the shorts. :D
I watched most of the first dvd and went out and started knapping on the obsidian. It's nice to work with.
-
you mean swimsuit had to jump in the crick lmao. what, you dont know style when you see it? glad you liked the obsidian good luck on making some blood er a points.
-
My guess is black walnut but just a guess :)
-
that was my guess too. but I am not the best at identifying trees, even with the leaves on i have to consult a book. but whatever it is I'll give it a shot what the hell nothing to lose but blood sweat and tears.

Maybe this will help ;)(http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/Richard_redwasp/Picture018.jpg)(http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/Richard_redwasp/Picture017.jpg)(http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv199/Richard_redwasp/Picture019.jpg)

Dont mind the mess I know where everything is. ;D

Now that I see the stave, it looks like the Black Walnut I have hanging on the wall. And that is an awefully large jug of glue :o . Gives me a thought, if you built a form, lined it with seran wrap, and poured in the glue, could you make a 20# glue stick bow :D
