Title: Bow Give Away
Post by: sknight199017 on April 23, 2009, 10:20:01 pm
First and formost I would like to thank my dad, (knightd), for helping me build this bow for this project.  Thanks dad!!  Part of my senior project was to do some kind of charity work.  This bow is for a child that does not have one.  If you have a child or know one that this bow would fit please put your name in a post.  I will put the names in a hat and have my little brother draw one.  This is my first bow so please be kind.  It is not perfect but it shoots well.  I will be drawing the names on May 7 and put up a post on here of who wins.  I will not be shipping out the bow until the first week in June as I have to have it for my senior project presentation on May 28.

The bow is a reflex/deflex bamboo backed ipe. 52"ntn 20#@20".The limbtip overlays are bocote.  It has an osage powerlam.  The handle woods are osage, canary wood, bocote, cocoabolo, and osage.

It makes me feel good to know that the bow is going to a child that at this moment does not have one.  The only thing that I ask for in return is a picture of the child with the bow.  Thanks very much.

Sierra Knight

Here are the pictures.

For some reason I can't see the pictures, but it really sounds great with all the different woods. I have two grandsons, twins, Chase and Aiden, I was going to look into getting bows for at the Classic or Cloverdale. Their birthday is coming up in July , so if I could, I would like to put their names in the hat. Thanks,  Brother Dan

:) :)  What a fantastic thing to do!  Great school project and a very generous offer.  Some lucky kid will get a bow that will start a possible life long adventure and you have started to give which will also be a lifetime experience as giving is itself a great reward.  As an old teacher I would say the project merits an A+!  :) :)  Sure beats the Herter's bow I started with!  Joe

That is a beautiful bow and gesture Sierra. You might consider also posting on Tradgang. Most of the folks on this board build bows and have likely provided bows to to folks they knew of who were in need.  I guarentee you will get a heap of responses on the other board for such an elegant gift.

Thanks guys for all the compliments.  Have to give dad a lot of apperciation to because if it wasn't for him I would not have been able to do this.  A lot of the guys on here helped me out with this project to.  If it wasn't for some of you I wouldn't have some of the things that helped me pass the paper part of this whole project.

Awesome! Nice looking bow. You may be able to contact Hunters Helping Kids and see if they know any young archers in need of a bow or the Boy Scouts. I am impressed with your maturity. Great Job and good luck on your grade. Hate that you were not able to make it to my get together this month.

Howdy Sknight,

Absolutely terrific lookin' bow - that handle, the staining on the back, (great detailing) and the profile - Really nice!!!

Also, a terrific gesture.

Here's three names to add to the hat;

-Cecelia Ann G.,
-Claire S.
-and Indigo Dawn L.

All three of these girls are eight years old, Cecelia and Claire are practicing the martial arts.  And, all three are learning to ride their bikes, they enjoy dressing up, playing dolls, and raising some pint-sized Heck.

All the best,
Canoe

Sierra, there is nothing to be kind about there.   That Bow is absolutely beautiful. :o  Only thing I can see is the brace height looks a bit high, but other than that it is beautiful.  That is a very nice gesture on your part, and a very good sign of proper parenting, and teaching of values, on Your Parents part.  :) It is nice to see younger people doing nice things for others.  Some where a star is about to shine on a very lucky little archer!   :)For a first bow, that is fantastic. 8)  Now for the Summer, lets see what you can do for your own bow! ;)

Sierra,
The bow is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! :o
I'm sure you will get very high marks on your paper.
But the best thing you will get is that warm fuzzy feeling when you get that pic of a happy kid holding that wonderful bow.
I'd like to add my nephew Johnathan Lauer to the list, he is 10 yrs. old and just two weeks ago I borrowed a bow for him so he could learn to shoot, his dad and I took him up to Hawkeye Bowmen for the Alaskan Shoot and he shot all 30 targets.

Hey,
I'd like to add my brother, Aidan Mittelberg, to the list.  He's 7 and I'm trying to get him into trad archery.  If I could, I'd make him a decent little bow, but I just haven't got the time between school and sports.  So far the only thing he's really shot is a little 25# compound I borrowed from a friend and he loves it.  Anyways, great lookin bow sknight and it's real charitable for you to give something like that away.  I send my best regards.
-Ian Mittelberg

Sierra,

That is a wonderfull thing to do and a wonderful looking bow.  I wish I had your skill.  I would like to add two names to the hat. Blaine Kelly and Ben Luna.  I love to watch them pretend to hunt.  They do not have bows but they do have active imaginations.  They are good friends and would have a wonderfull time with that beautiful bow.

Thanks

Great job, Sierra, and a wonderful idea.  You already have the spirit of the bowyer.  You will find that bowyers are the most generous and helpful people around.  They sure help me all the time.  Great craftsmanship and technique.  Keep it up.

Howdy Sierra K.,

Wow!!  I'm speechless!!

Cecelia will absolutely flip over this gift from her new, faraway friend.  The bow is beautiful, sleek, curvy, magical lookin' -- Functional Art!
And, she'll love the color!
Her mother could hardly believe that Cece is going to receive such a wonderful gesture from friends, "whom we haven't met."

I'll be sure to take a few pictures of Cecelia and her pals as they try out the new bow at our local, public archery range.  The range is located in a large park, near our home, with swing sets, woods to explore, and a beautiful river with a water fall all within a short walk from the archery range.  This bow will provide Cece and I many opportunities to spend quality time outdoors while I share, with her, my lifelong enthusiasm for archery.

Also, as I approach my 30th year in archery and bowhunting, this Fall, I will be marking her (our) first year.

Without providing details, Sierra, the timing of this gift makes it all-the-sweeter.  So, I look forward to repaying this gesture through gift or time to a stranger in need.  I'm truly touched.

Thank you so very much from myself, Cecelia, and our family.

All the Best,
Canoe

Hello SKnight and Group,

My buddy and I made plans to bring Cece along with us while we attending a local, archery club's shoot / pig roast on Saturday morning, (June 13, '09).  We were hoping that the bow would arrive in time for Cecelia to take part in her first archery shoot.

And, Jean and I had already ordered an arm guard, kid's arrows (pink!), and stuff from 3River's Archery.

Well, we received the bow on Friday morning, and surprised Cecelia with it that evening.  It was a Jaw Dropping surprise!    With her mouth wide open and big, wide eyes,"This is for me!?"  She just stared at it for a long moment - a memorable moment.

We (Jean, myself, and Cecelia) just can't find the words to describe the significance of this gift.  It will allow Cece and I many hours of quality time together.  She's talking about going to the archery range to practice.  And, I intend to use her new found interest to introduce her to the Outdoors; silent walks in the woods - looking and listening more than walking, animal tracks, birding, maps, compass, and finding comfort, peacefulness, and solitude in the Wilderness.

Sierra, thank you so much!

Canoe

So, Attached are a few pic.s from our Saturday morning, 3-D archery shoot.

Enjoy...     (Well,...  the pictures will be posted as soon the neighbor girl comes over to help - I thought I had this posting pictures figured.  I have to Resize the pictures, they are too big.)
-I did email SKnight about five nice photos of Cece, with her new bow, from our archery outing.  I'm sure she received them.
