This past weekend I met a guy named Scott.. He had a large old collection of point's and knives.. I think he said they were from TX.. But any way None of us had a clue what kind of point or what kind of material this point is.. Any Ideas??? It's approx. 10"x4"..

I would call it a Hoe ???
-
interesting piece for sure. Never know, might just be an attempt to be different? Looks well made.
Does look man made .... ;D ;D
-
Cant be sure of material from pic however, looks like an mid archaic knife point (archeological perspective. ::) However, dont think its mid archaic looks a lot more recent. Would make a good "hoe" now woulndt it ? ;D.......bob

if i read dimensions correct itd make a good axe
-
how thick is it?
-
Never saw anyting exactly like that. Could be an adze or mattock blade? I wouldn't be sure that it's authentic either, it looks kinda like one of those gray ghosts. But you never know, there have been some wierd things found over the years, especially around mounds.

Nice peice! Don't know what it is but looks a lot like that hawk head I was trying to make awhile back - sure that's not what it is. Maybe something ceremonial? Nice knapping - looks really thin for the dimension's given, wow....
-
It was Thin.. I would say 1/4" to 3/8".. The lines in it look like growth rings and the straight line through them look's like it could be the pith line from the center as it does not show on the other side of the piece..
-
that was a cool peace for sure, it was also curved like it was warped ??? and as thin as it was i cant see it being a chopping tool, or at least not for heavy work.
-
the leading edge was worked to be sharp so i would guess an adze . especially with the double notching. what area are you in. being that thin i would imagine it would break easily. evn a sideways glance off a skull could break it. unless it was used to remove burnt wood like in a dugout

All the artifacts that steve brought were actually his neighbors.
His Neighbor's Dad collected them and lives down in TX. He didnt have specific locations and dates on any of them though.
Was hoping James would show up and tell us what was what. Maybe he can bring them up to hickory and drag his neighbor along.
-
Looks like it could be a ceremonial tomahawk. I think I've seen a couple of similar artifacts but without the notches.
-
Looks to me like a Yooper pasty cutter better send to me for safe keeping ;) :D

My woman says its a platter. like a turkey plate. heh

adze!

looks like a repro to me, patina looks wrong
-
I had a modern-made "Duck River sword" that looked about the same. Same patina and quite long. It was not at all ancient.

I thought I'd given it away. A friend of mine gave it to me & I have no idea where it came from.
Here it is.
