Title: did some today

i set up in my dinning room and busted rock today, i was cookin rock in my oven so i had to stay home and keep an eye on that, this is what i ended up with.
All of them are made from T.N creek chert.

Awesome stuff  Jesse! I know a feller from Mn, that use to knap obsidian in his basement ...ON THE SHAG CARPET!!! Dohhhh! :)

I would absolutly be dead right now ifin I tried that at my house!

Funny you mentioned cooking rock.I threw a batch in yesterday. Always anxious to let it cool to see what ya got? :)

timo: who do you know in mn that does that. i live in mn and have been looking for someone to teach me a few things.

wow jesse those are awesome. i just picked up some of of that yellowish chalky dover stuff. reminds me of thunderchert with more chalk in it. you did a great job on those

Sailor, Scott Dobler aka,Eskimo boy (on PP),Clint Fulbright,(very good knapper) not sure what his handle is.Post a thread over there and maybe someone will come forward?

 The fella that knapped on the shag is out of the loop nowadays.Haven't heard from ,or of him for several years now.

Jesse,how did the rock cookin come out?

came out good, none busted and I've been brave with it.. rampin up to 500* in about 3hrs.. holding for 3hrs and cooling for 3hrs.. i was knappin hot rocks last night.
got a 2nd batch cooling right now.

Hot rocks will make you a faster knapper.:) Did you run a drying cycle? That is a fast man!

naw my sand is dry and my rocks are dry..
the 2nd batch came out good.. i dont know what all the fuss is about havein to ramp it up so slow.
it might just be the rock i'm cookin but i had 2slabs of agait in this batch and they done fine.

  I'm like you Jesse. I crank the toaster up to 450 or 550 and let her go to work. I don't have time for all that ramping.

i do jamie, i cook it at 500* let it sock for 3hrs.
its changes alot.

i hope so its like chippin talc when its raw. i knocked out a few raw but most of em step something fierce.

sure am glad you are cooking flint  because i dont have any way to cook it any more since i gave you my kiln.bring some with you saturday if you have any left, i am planning on coming up. got a couple more daltons to show you.just found out how to do this computer stuff.
