Title: I'll Share One: Osage Working Handle
Post by: Christophero on March 28, 2009, 02:52:44 pm
This was just mailed this morning for my brother.

It is my first ringed chased bow that I didn't back.  The other's were for static recurves that were sinewed.  It may be a simple selfbow but I truly have fallen in love with how it looks.

After cleaning the knot holes out I thought to give him piece of mind and plugged them with sawdust and superglue.  The belly was heat treated to boot and reflexed at the same time.  Exersizing the limbs on the tillering tree took most of the reflex out but the toasting jumped the weight up 5+ pounds.  Very worth while, I thought.

Braced at just under 6"

I don't pull 30" but extended my draw to show the bend of the limbs.  The handle was worked down very small compared to any other bow I've made so it will give ever so slightly.  This was to prevent exsessive set from robbing the cast from a longer draw.

The name comes from by brother's nickname.  As little feller's he and my other brother couldn't say each other's given name so Bryan became.......

That kind of goes with the nature of the wood, too. ;D
